Brandon Hire Station scores highest of the ten UK scaffolding and access brands compared, at 5.4 out of 10 on the Whito leaderboard.
Opinion and analysis. Whito read every brand below by hand, using publicly visible activity only: the first five on 12 October 2026 and the five added to make this a top ten on 22 October 2026, against the same fixed anchors and the same ten searches. Each channel is scored 0 to 10, set out under How we scored, so a score describes what we could see on the day, not the quality or safety of any scaffold. Brands cannot pay to appear or to change a score. Where a figure is not published, we say so.
Scaffolding is sold on relationships and tenders, so most firms treat marketing as optional. The scores agree: only one brand on this board passes 5 out of 10, and none of the ten appeared in any of our ten UK scaffolding searches.
Brandon Hire Station scores 5.4, ahead of HSS Hire on 4.4 and Speedy Hire and Sunbelt Rentals level on 4.3. The hire chains lead because they serve trade and DIY customers online. Brandon is the only brand here to show a price, £40.00 a week for a scaffold tower.
TRAD (Altrad) scores lowest at 1.4. Its scaffolding page links to no social accounts, lists only an 0845 phone number and shows no awards newer than 2018.

What the channels show
Hire chains lead, contractors trail
The four hire chains, Brandon Hire Station, HSS Hire, Speedy Hire and Sunbelt Rentals, score between 4.3 and 5.4 because they sell to trade and DIY customers online, with accounts, baskets and branch finders. GAP Hire Solutions follows on 3.7. The five scaffolding contractors score 2.7 or below. They win work through tenders and repeat clients, so they publish little.
One price on the whole board
Brandon Hire Station shows a 3T aluminium scaffold tower at £40.00 a week, excluding VAT, and scores 10 on website. None of the other nine shows a scaffolding or tower hire price on the pages read. A homeowner planning roof, render or chimney work wants to know roughly what scaffolding costs, and for how long, before they pick up the phone.
Reviews are scarce and mixed
Brandon Hire Station holds 4.3 from 11,778 Trustpilot reviews and replies to 19 of its latest 20, the strongest review record here. HSS Hire has the largest base, 21,604 at 3.7, with no replies on the latest 20. Speedy Hire replies to 15 of 20. All five contractors have no Trustpilot profile, so a buyer comparing scaffolders has almost nothing public to go on.
Search is untouched
Across ten UK scaffolding searches, none of the ten brands appeared in the top ten, and every brand scores 2 on SEO. The results went to directories, quote sites and local firms. A local scaffolder with a plain page per town, a guide to costs and a page on what a scaffold licence involves faces no national brand competition in these results.
Key lessons for any scaffolding business
Say ‘scaffolding’ plainly
Speedy Hire files access kit under ‘Working at Height’ and HSS Hire under ‘Access Towers & Platforms’. Put the words your customers type, such as scaffolding hire, scaffold tower and scaffolding for roof work, in your page titles and headings.
Publish a guide price
Brandon Hire Station prices its towers by the week and tops the board. Give a range for a common job, such as a front elevation on a two-storey house, and say what changes it: height, access, duration and licences.
Name the people responsible for safety
Turner Access names its Finance Director, Operations Manager, Contracts Manager and supervisors, the only contractor here to pass the named people check. Buyers want to know who signs off a scaffold.
Collect reviews from every domestic job
None of the five contractors has a Trustpilot profile. A local scaffolder with a few dozen genuine reviews would have more public proof than any of them. Ask at handover and reply to each review personally, as Brandon does.
Use a local number and keep the site current
TRAD lists only an 0845 number and shows awards from 2017 and 2018. A local number, a short contact form and one recent job with photos posted each month tell buyers the business is active and easy to reach.
Steal this playbook
Five moves from this leaderboard, ranked by return on effort.
- Write one page per town you cover. None of the ten brands appeared in our ten scaffolding searches, so local pages face no national competition.
- Publish a guide price for a typical house job. Only Brandon Hire Station shows any price, and it leads the board.
- Start collecting reviews and reply to them. Five of the ten brands have no Trustpilot profile; Brandon replies to 19 of its latest 20.
- Use the word scaffolding in headings. Speedy Hire and HSS Hire do not, leaving the plain term open.
- Name your supervisors and managers. Turner Access is the only contractor naming its people.

How we scored
Who is on the board. Scaffolding is mainly B2B; this board scores ten scaffolding and access brands that UK contractors and some homeowners are likely to meet, chosen for scale not marketing strength: BrandSafway’s UK operation (trading as Brand Access Solutions), TRAD (part of Altrad), Turner Access (contract scaffolder, Central Scotland), GKR Scaffolding (award-winning scaffolding and access contractor based in Kent), Alltask (UK scaffolding, insulation and environmental contractor), and five national hire chains that rent scaffold towers and access kit to trade and DIY customers: Speedy Hire, HSS Hire, Brandon Hire Station, Sunbelt Rentals and GAP Hire Solutions. Brands were chosen for relevance and size, not for marketing strength.
When we looked. The board launched with five brands, read on 12 October 2026. Five more were added on 22 October 2026 to make a top ten, read against the same anchors below, with the same ten searches run again on that date. The first five were not re-read, so their figures are as of 12 October. The five added on 22 October 2026 (Brandon Hire Station, Sunbelt Rentals, GAP Hire Solutions, GKR Scaffolding and Alltask) showed no active Meta ads. Meta Ad Library counts for brands added on 22 October were read on 23 October 2026, after the library was unavailable on 22 October.
- Social: which platforms the brand links to from its own site, and whether we could see recent posting and video.
- Website: 2 for a brochure page, 4 with a contact route on mobile, 6 with a page per service and a one-step enquiry, 8 with prices or ranges and registration numbers shown, 10 with online booking or an instant priced quote.
- Email: visible capture only, as we did not subscribe test inboxes for this edition. 2 for a bare newsletter form, up to 10 for a loyalty or app ecosystem with personal offers.
- SEO: ten UK searches for this trade, run through a standard web search API (12 October 2026 for the first five brands, 22 October 2026 for the five added; not personalised, no location set beyond the town in the query); we counted how many returned the brand’s own site in the top ten results. 0 of 10 scores 2, 1 to 2 scores 4, 3 to 4 scores 6, 5 to 6 scores 8, 7 or more scores 10, plus 1 for a substantial advice library. The searches: scaffolding hire UK; scaffold tower hire; scaffolding contractors UK; scaffolding cost for house UK; NASC scaffolding contractor; scaffolding London; scaffolding Manchester; scaffolding Glasgow; scaffolding Birmingham; scaffolding Leeds.
- Paid: the Google Ads Transparency Centre (UK, last 30 days, by domain) and the Meta Ad Library (UK, active ads whose text names the brand, counted by the advertiser page). 2 for nothing found in either, 4 for active in one with fewer than 10 ads, 6 for active in both or 10+ in one, 8 for active in both with 10+ in at least one, 10 for 50+ Google ads and 10+ Meta ads. Paid describes visible activity, not quality. A low paid score is not a fault.
- Reviews: a fixed formula. Rating (4.7+ scores 4, 4.5 to 4.69 scores 3, 4.0 to 4.49 scores 2, 3.5 to 3.99 scores 1) plus volume (10,000+ scores 4, 1,000+ scores 3, 100+ scores 2, 20+ scores 1) plus replies to the latest 20 reviews (half or more scores 2, some scores 1).
- Brand: five checks worth 2 each: the same name and logo everywhere, one clear positioning line, a distinctive asset used for years, three or more independent press mentions in 90 days, and named people or expertise on the site.
These anchors are fixed for this edition, so the ten scores can be read against each other, allowing for the ten days between the two reading dates. Boards published before October 2026 used scores relative to the other brands on the board, so compare across boards with care.
Common questions
Which scaffolding brand scores highest on the Whito leaderboard?
Brandon Hire Station scores highest at 5.4 out of 10, ahead of HSS Hire on 4.4. It prices scaffold tower hire online at £40.00 a week, holds 4.3 from 11,778 Trustpilot reviews and replies to 19 of its latest 20. The score measures visible marketing, not the safety or quality of any scaffold.
Which scaffolding brand scores lowest?
TRAD (Altrad) scores 1.4 out of 10, the lowest of the ten. Its scaffolding page links to no social accounts, lists only an 0845 phone number, collects no email and shows no awards newer than 2018. It says 80% of its work is repeat business, which may explain the light marketing.
How do scaffolding brands compare on reviews?
Only the hire chains have Trustpilot profiles. Brandon Hire Station holds 4.3 from 11,778 reviews with replies to 19 of its latest 20, and HSS Hire 3.7 from 21,604 with none. Speedy Hire holds 2.8 from 2,250 with replies to 15 of 20. The five contractors have no Trustpilot profile.
What can a local scaffolder copy from these brands?
Publish a guide price, as Brandon Hire Station does for tower hire. Name your managers and supervisors, as Turner Access does. Collect reviews from domestic jobs, reply to each one, and use the word scaffolding plainly in your page headings and town pages.
Why is scaffolding marketing weaker than other trades?
Most scaffolding work is won through tenders and repeat clients, so contractors invest little in public marketing. On this board the five contractors score between 1.4 and 2.7, and none of the ten brands appeared in our ten UK scaffolding searches. That gap is an opening for local firms serving homeowners and small builders.
