British Gas scores highest of the ten UK plumbing and heating brands compared, at 6.7 out of 10 on the Whito leaderboard.

Opinion and analysis. Whito read every brand below by hand, using publicly visible activity only: the first five on 12 October 2026 and the five added to make this a top ten on 22 October 2026, against the same fixed anchors and the same ten searches. Each channel is scored 0 to 10, set out under How we scored, so a score describes what we could see on the day, not the quality of the service. Brands cannot pay to appear or to change a score. Where a figure is not published, we say so.

Most plumbing firms think the job is won on the phone. On this board, the brands that score well have done the work before the phone rings: a price a customer can read, a reply under each review, and a name that can be checked.

British Gas leads on 6.7, ahead of HomeServe on 6.4, with Hometree and Pimlico Plumbers level on 6.3. Search is the weak channel for all ten: no brand appeared in more than 1 of 10 UK searches.

Rightio scores lowest at 3.1. It runs about 2,000 Google ads but links no social profiles, captures no email and shows no prices.

What the channels show

Search is open ground

No brand appeared in more than 1 of 10 UK searches. On 22 October, British Gas and HomeServe appeared for ‘plumbing and drains cover’, and the city searches went to Checkatrade, MyBuilder, Which? Trusted Traders and directories. A clear page for each town, with a Gas Safe number and a price, competes on equal terms.

Prices and online booking lead

British Gas and Dyno-Rod score 10 on website for online booking, and Hometree 9 for selling cover online. CORGI HomePlan, 24|7 Home Rescue and Aspect show prices and score 8. Rightio and Metro Plumb show none and score 6.

Reviews split on replies

Pimlico Plumbers replies to 19 of its latest 20 Trustpilot reviews, British Gas to 15, HomeServe to 14 and Aspect to 13. Hometree, Metro Plumb and Dyno-Rod reply to none. CORGI HomePlan holds 4.8 from 69,863 and replies to 10, the only top review score.

Cover brands dominate review volume

British Gas (359,930), HomeServe (194,392), 24|7 Home Rescue (104,193) and CORGI HomePlan (69,863) hold the largest Trustpilot profiles, all built from subscription customers.

Key lessons for any plumbing and heating business

Publish your rates

Pimlico Plumbers publishes a full rate card. Show your prices including VAT so the figure is the one a householder pays.

Reply to every review

Pimlico Plumbers replies to 19 of its latest 20. Replying shows the next customer how you handle problems.

Print your Gas Safe number

Pimlico Plumbers and Metro Plumb show accreditation logos without numbers. A number a customer can check is worth more than a logo.

Build a page for each town

No brand appeared in more than 1 of 10 UK searches, so a local page with real jobs and prices faces little national competition.

Steal this playbook

Five moves from this leaderboard, ranked by return on effort.

  1. Reply to every review. Pimlico Plumbers replies to 19 of its latest 20; three brands here reply to none.
  2. Publish a rate card. The brands that show prices or book online score 7 to 10 on website.
  3. Build town pages. No brand appeared in more than 1 of 10 UK searches.
  4. Print your registration numbers. Logos without numbers cost two brands here a website point.
  5. Collect an email at booking. Dyno-Rod, Metro Plumb and Rightio capture none.

How we scored

Who is on the board. Ten UK brands with national or multi-region reach that a household needing a plumber or heating repair is likely to meet: Pimlico Plumbers (London multi-trade firm, part of Neighbourly), Aspect (London and South East maintenance firm), Metro Plumb (national franchise network), Hometree (online heating and home cover), 24|7 Home Rescue (online boiler and home emergency cover), British Gas (energy supplier with repairs and cover), HomeServe (home emergency cover and repairs), Dyno-Rod (national drainage and plumbing franchise), CORGI HomePlan (boiler cover provider) and Rightio (national multi-trade call-out brand). HomeServe and Dyno-Rod were left out of the first edition because they appear on another board; they are added here because a household needing a plumber is likely to meet them. Chosen for relevance and size, not marketing strength.

When we looked. The board launched with five brands, read on 12 October 2026. Five more were added on 22 October 2026 to make a top ten, read against the same anchors below, with the same ten searches run again on that date. The first five were not re-read, so their figures are as of 12 October. Meta Ad Library counts for brands added on 22 October were read on 23 October 2026, after the library was unavailable on 22 October. This applies to the five brands added on 22 October; the first five keep the Paid scores they were given on 12 October, which include Meta.

  • Social: which platforms the brand links to from its own site, and whether we could see recent posting and video.
  • Website: 2 for a brochure page, 4 with a contact route on mobile, 6 with a page per service and a one-step enquiry, 8 with prices or ranges and registration numbers shown, 10 with online booking or an instant priced quote.
  • Email: visible capture only, as we did not subscribe test inboxes for this edition. 2 for a bare newsletter form, up to 10 for a loyalty or app ecosystem with personal offers.
  • SEO: ten UK searches for this trade, run through a standard web search API (12 October 2026 for the first five brands, 22 October 2026 for the five added) (not personalised, no location set beyond the town in the query); we counted how many returned the brand’s own site in the top ten results. 0 of 10 scores 2, 1 to 2 scores 4, 3 to 4 scores 6, 5 to 6 scores 8, 7 or more scores 10, plus 1 for a substantial advice library. The searches: emergency plumber London; emergency plumber Manchester; plumber Bristol; plumber near me; boiler repair cost UK; leak detection plumber; plumber Birmingham; plumber Leeds; plumber Glasgow; plumbing and drains cover.
  • Paid: the Google Ads Transparency Centre (UK, last 30 days, by domain) and the Meta Ad Library (UK, active ads whose text names the brand, counted by the advertiser page). 2 for nothing found in either, 4 for active in one with fewer than 10 ads, 6 for active in both or 10+ in one, 8 for active in both with 10+ in at least one, 10 for 50+ Google ads and 10+ Meta ads. Paid describes visible activity, not quality. A low paid score is not a fault.
  • Reviews: a fixed formula. Rating (4.7+ scores 4, 4.5 to 4.69 scores 3, 4.0 to 4.49 scores 2, 3.5 to 3.99 scores 1) plus volume (10,000+ scores 4, 1,000+ scores 3, 100+ scores 2, 20+ scores 1) plus replies to the latest 20 reviews (half or more scores 2, some scores 1).
  • Brand: five checks worth 2 each: the same name and logo everywhere, one clear positioning line, a distinctive asset used for years, three or more independent press mentions in 90 days, and named people or expertise on the site.

These anchors are fixed for this edition, so the ten scores can be read against each other. Boards published before October 2026 used scores relative to the other brands on the board, so compare across boards with care.

Common questions

Which plumbing and heating brand scores highest on the Whito leaderboard?

British Gas scores highest at 6.7 out of 10, with online booking, replies to 15 of its latest 20 Trustpilot reviews and about 500 Google ads and at least 14 Meta ads. HomeServe follows on 6.4, then Hometree and Pimlico Plumbers on 6.3. Pimlico earns its score with a published rate card, replies to 19 of its latest 20 Trustpilot reviews and named staff. Hometree earns its score with an online checkout and 4.7 from 18,393 Trustpilot reviews.

Which plumbing brand scores lowest, and why?

Rightio scores 3.1. It runs about 2,000 Google ads, but links no social profiles, captures no email, shows no prices and holds 3.4 from 14,032 Trustpilot reviews.

How do these plumbing brands compare on reviews?

Volume is high, from 647 reviews for Metro Plumb to 359,930 for British Gas. The difference is replies: Pimlico Plumbers answers 19 of its latest 20 and British Gas 15, while Hometree, Metro Plumb and Dyno-Rod answer none.

What can a local plumbing firm copy from these brands?

Publish your rates with VAT included. Print your Gas Safe number beside the logo. Reply to every review. Put real names on your site. Build a page for each town you cover, because no national brand appeared in more than 1 of 10 UK searches.

Should a plumbing firm publish its prices online?

On this board, the brands that show prices or book online score 7 to 10 on website, while Metro Plumb and Rightio, which show none, score 6. Show prices including VAT so the figure is the one a householder pays.
