Blacklane scores highest of the ten UK taxi and private hire brands compared, at 7.1 out of 10 on the Whito leaderboard.
Opinion and analysis. Whito read every brand below by hand on 22 October 2026, using publicly visible activity only, against fixed anchors and the same ten UK searches. Each channel is scored 0 to 10, set out under How we scored, so a score describes what we could see on the day, not the quality of the rides. Brands cannot pay to appear or to change a score. Where a figure is not published, we say so.
Apps ate the phone number. Every brand here runs an app, so the website and email scores bunch together at 9 to 10 and 6. What separates the ten is reviews and search, and on both the biggest names are not the leaders.
Blacklane scores 7.1, ahead of Addison Lee on 6.6 and Uber on 6.3. Blacklane is the only brand to appear in more than two of 10 UK searches, and it replies to 14 of its latest 20 Trustpilot reviews.
Sherbet London scores lowest at 4.3. It ran no Google ads and 1 Meta ad, appeared in none of 10 UK searches, has 10 Trustpilot reviews at 2.3 and runs social accounts under another name.
What can your business learn?
Who’s leading? Blacklane, with 7.1 out of 10 across seven channels.
Why are they leading? Its highest-scoring channels are Website (10/10) and Paid (10/10).
Where’s the opportunity? SEO is the weakest channel on this board. The ten brands average 2.8 out of 10 on it, and 7 of them score 3 or less.
What can you copy? Three of the lessons further down this page:
- Own your town’s search results
- Publish a price, or at least a range
- Treat Trustpilot as the second app store
Read all four lessons · Scores measure visible marketing, not sales, profit or market share.

What the channels show
Local search is still won by local pages
Blacklane appeared in 3 of 10 UK searches through its city pages for Manchester, Leeds and Bristol, Uber in 2 and Veezu in 1, for Birmingham. The other seven appeared in none. The town searches went to council licensing pages, news sites and local firms, and the cost searches to fare comparison pages and council fare tables.
The review gap is the sector’s tell
Uber has the most Trustpilot reviews on the board, 39,185, at 1.9, with no replies on the latest 20. Bolt holds 3.7 from 27,376 and replies to 18. Addison Lee (4.6 from 9,427), Gett, minicabit and Blacklane reply to most of their latest 20 and score 7 or 8. Wheely and Sherbet London score 1.
Price transparency stops at the app door
Uber and minicabit show a price before you book on the website, and Addison Lee and Blacklane take bookings on the web. The other six send you to an app before you see a fare. A local firm that publishes its airport fares on a plain page competes with all of them on the cost searches.
Consolidation buys distribution, not affection
Ownership changes have bought market access for the acquirers. None of them bought a better Trustpilot score. The marketing assets that transfer cleanly are the app and the search positions. The reputation has to be rebuilt locally either way.
Key lessons for any taxi or private hire business
Own your town’s search results
Seven of ten brands appeared in none of 10 UK searches. A page for your town with your fares, your licensing council and your phone number competes where the national apps are absent.
Publish a price, or at least a range
Uber and minicabit show prices on the web before you book. A table of fixed fares to the nearest airport and station answers the cost questions people search for.
Treat Trustpilot as the second app store
Gett replies to all 20 of its latest reviews and minicabit to 19. Uber replies to none and holds 1.9. Replying is the one review habit that costs nothing but time.
Answer the 2am searcher
The ‘taxi near me UK’ search returned no operator at all. A clear mobile page with a tap-to-call number and opening hours is all a late-night customer needs.
Steal this playbook
Five moves from this leaderboard, ranked by return on effort.
- Reply to every review you have. Gett replies to all 20 of its latest; Uber and Veezu reply to none.
- Publish your airport and station fares. Only Uber and minicabit show a price on the web before booking.
- Build a page for each town you cover. Seven of ten brands appeared in none of 10 UK searches.
- Let customers book on the web as well as the app. Addison Lee, Blacklane, Uber and minicabit do, and score 10 on website.
- Use one name on every profile. Sherbet London runs its X and Instagram as Sherbet Media.

How we scored
Who is on the board. Ten UK taxi and private hire brands a passenger is likely to meet: Addison Lee (London private hire and courier firm), FREENOW (taxi app, now owned by Lyft), Bolt (ride-hailing app), Veezu (UK private hire group with local brands), Gett (London black cab app), Uber (the largest ride-hailing app), minicabit (online minicab comparison and booking), Blacklane (chauffeur booking service), Wheely (premium chauffeur app in London) and Sherbet London (electric black cab operator). Chosen for relevance and size, not marketing strength. The first edition left Uber out to focus on the operators competing around it; with ten brands, it is now scored alongside them.
This board was first published with scores relative to the other brands on it. On 22 October 2026 it was rescored on Whito’s fixed anchors and expanded to ten brands, so scores are not comparable with the earlier edition.
When we looked. All ten brands were read on 22 October 2026, with the ten searches below run once on that date. Meta Ad Library counts were read on 23 October 2026, after the library was unavailable on 22 October. Booking through an app scores 9 on website when the site itself takes no booking and shows no fare; web booking or a price on the page scores 10.
- Social: which platforms the brand links to from its own site, and whether we could see recent posting and video.
- Website: 2 for a brochure page, 4 with a contact route on mobile, 6 with a page per service and a one-step enquiry, 8 with prices or ranges and registration numbers shown, 10 with online booking or an instant priced quote.
- Email: visible capture only, as we did not subscribe test inboxes for this edition. 2 for a bare newsletter form, up to 10 for a loyalty or app ecosystem with personal offers.
- SEO: ten UK searches for this trade, run through a standard web search API (22 October 2026; not personalised, no location set beyond the town in the query); we counted how many returned the brand’s own site in the top ten results. 0 of 10 scores 2, 1 to 2 scores 4, 3 to 4 scores 6, 5 to 6 scores 8, 7 or more scores 10, plus 1 for a substantial advice library. The searches: taxi near me UK; taxi fare cost per mile UK; airport taxi transfer cost UK; private hire minicab booking; book a taxi online UK; taxi London; taxi Manchester; taxi Birmingham; taxi Leeds; taxi Bristol.
- Paid: the Google Ads Transparency Centre (UK, last 30 days, by domain) and the Meta Ad Library (UK, active ads whose text names the brand, counted by the advertiser page). 2 for nothing found in either, 4 for active in one with fewer than 10 ads, 6 for active in both or 10+ in one, 8 for active in both with 10+ in at least one, 10 for 50+ Google ads and 10+ Meta ads. Paid describes visible activity, not quality. A low paid score is not a fault.
- Reviews: a fixed formula. Rating (4.7+ scores 4, 4.5 to 4.69 scores 3, 4.0 to 4.49 scores 2, 3.5 to 3.99 scores 1) plus volume (10,000+ scores 4, 1,000+ scores 3, 100+ scores 2, 20+ scores 1) plus replies to the latest 20 reviews (half or more scores 2, some scores 1).
- Brand: five checks worth 2 each: the same name and logo everywhere, one clear positioning line, a distinctive asset used for years, three or more independent press mentions in 90 days, and named people or expertise on the site.
These anchors are fixed for this edition, so the ten scores can be read against each other. Boards published before October 2026 used scores relative to the other brands on the board, so compare across boards with care.

Sherbet London scores 4.3. No Google ads and 1 Meta ad were found, it did not appear in any of 10 UK searches, it has 10 Trustpilot reviews at 2.3 and its X and Instagram accounts run under the Sherbet Media name.
Why does Uber not lead?
Uber scores 10 on website and 10 on paid, with about 3,000 Google ads in 30 days and at least 80 Meta ads, but its Trustpilot rating is 1.9 from 39,185 reviews with no replies on the latest 20, so reviews score 4. It appeared in 2 of 10 UK searches. It ends third on 6.3, behind Blacklane and Addison Lee.
How do these taxi brands compare on reviews?
Ratings run from 1.7 for Wheely to 4.6 for Addison Lee. Uber has the most reviews, 39,185, followed by Bolt on 27,376. Gett replies to all 20 of its latest, minicabit to 19 and Addison Lee and Bolt to 18, while Uber, Veezu and Wheely reply to none.
What can a small taxi firm copy from these brands?
Publish fixed fares to your nearest airport and station. Build a page for each town you cover. Reply to every review. Let customers book on the web, not only by phone or app, and use one name on every profile.
