Before you read: Whito Ltd is not authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority and holds no firm reference number. We do not arrange, advise on, recommend or sell any financial product, and we take no commission from any firm we write about. This page is general information, not financial, insurance or legal advice.
Unbiased scores highest of the ten UK financial adviser brands compared, at 7.3 out of 10 on the Whito leaderboard.
Opinion and analysis. Whito read every brand below by hand, using publicly visible activity only: the first five on 12 October 2026 and the five added to make this a top ten on 22 October 2026, against the same fixed anchors and the same ten searches. Each channel is scored 0 to 10, set out under How we scored, so a score describes what we could see on the day, not the quality of the service. Brands cannot pay to appear or to change a score. Where a figure is not published, we say so.
Most advice firms assume new clients arrive through referrals and reputation. The searches we ran tell a different story. When someone searches for a financial adviser by town or by question, the result is usually a matching platform or a directory, not an advice firm.
Unbiased, an adviser-matching platform, appeared in 7 of 10 UK searches we ran on 12 October. Of the five brands added on 22 October, only St. James’s Place and Hargreaves Lansdown appeared, in 2 each. Hargreaves Lansdown is third at 6.1, after Unbiased on 7.3 and Evelyn Partners on 6.4.
Openwork scores lowest at 2.7: its Trustpilot profile shows no reviews and no Google ads were found. This leaderboard scores marketing visibility only. It says nothing about the quality of anyone’s advice.
What can your business learn?

Unbiased, Evelyn Partners, True Potential, Quilter and Fairstone read 12 October 2026; Hargreaves Lansdown, St. James’s Place, Chase de Vere, VouchedFor and Openwork read 22 October 2026. Company verdicts
Unbiased, 7.3
Unbiased is a matching platform rather than an advice firm. Its site says Unbiased Ltd does not give advice, and that matching is provided by Unbiased Group Services Limited as an appointed representative of Richdale Brokers & Financial Services Ltd. Its marketing is built around search. It appeared in 7 of 10 UK searches we ran, including town searches for Manchester, Leeds, Bristol and Glasgow, backed by a large guides library and free pension and mortgage guides that collect email. Paid activity is heavy, at about 700 Google ads by domain in the last 30 days. Trustpilot shows 4.5 from 12,539 reviews, with 17 of the latest 20 replied to. Its clearest gap is brand: no named people appear on the homepage, and the only regional press piece found (12 December 2025) was labelled affiliate content.
Evelyn Partners, 6.4
Evelyn Partners, a wealth manager now owned by NatWest Group after a £2.7bn deal completed on 1 July 2026, scores 6.4. It is one of three brands here to publish an advice fee on its own site, stating that individual advice fees typically start from £2,000. It names managing partners and directors, runs a recurring podcast, ‘The Power of Good Advice’, and links to five social platforms. Paid scores the full 10, with 50 Google ads by domain and 21 active Meta ads. Search is thin, at 1 of 10 queries, through a Manchester office page. Its clearest gap is reviews: 212 Trustpilot reviews at 4.1, with 4 of the latest 20 replied to.
Hargreaves Lansdown, 6.1
Hargreaves Lansdown scores 6.1, third on the board and the highest of the five added. Its website scores 8, the joint highest here, because its advice page shows fees, a £995 minimum charge for investment advice and an ongoing service at 0.365% a year, with FCA authorisation. Reviews score 8 from 4.2 on 21,371 Trustpilot reviews, with replies to 15 of the latest 20. It appeared for ‘pension advice UK financial adviser’ and ‘financial adviser Bristol’, and an insights library adds a point, so SEO scores 5. Paid scores 10 on about 400 Google ads and 49 Meta ads.
True Potential, 5.7
True Potential scores 5.7. Its homepage cites £40.7bn invested on its platform and more than 640,000 clients at 30 June 2026. It publishes its fee scale in full, including a 0.50% ongoing advice fee and initial advice of up to 4%, and prints three FCA firm reference numbers on the homepage. It links to five social platforms and runs the ‘Do More With Your Money’ podcast. Trustpilot shows 4.9 from 23,765 reviews, the largest base in this set, and trade press covered it three times in the 90 days to 12 October 2026. Paid is light, with 1 Google ad by domain and no active Meta ads found, and it appeared in none of our 10 searches. Its clearest gap is replies: none of its latest 20 reviews has a company reply.
St. James’s Place, 5.3
St. James’s Place scores 5.3, fifth on the board. Its location pages appeared for ‘financial adviser Bristol’ and ‘financial adviser Glasgow’, so SEO scores 4. Reviews score 7 from 4.1 on 5,318 Trustpilot reviews, with replies to 15 of the latest 20. Social scores 6 for five platforms and paid 10 on 64 Google ads and 50 Meta ads. Its website scores 6: a charges page is linked, but no fee figures appear on the homepage. Email scores 0.
Chase de Vere, 4.7
Chase de Vere scores 4.7, level sixth with Quilter. Reviews score 9 from 4.9 on 1,154 Trustpilot reviews, with replies to 14 of the latest 20. Its website scores 7, with booking and FCA authorisation but no fee figures. Email scores 4 for a client login. Paid scores 4 on 6 Google ads with no Meta ads found, and social 2 with only LinkedIn linked. chasedevere.co.uk appeared in none of 10 UK searches, with an insights library adding a point.
Quilter (Quilter Financial Advisers), 4.7
Quilter scores 4.7, level sixth with Chase de Vere. Its ‘Money needs a plan’ platform made its TV debut on 27 July 2026, running for five weeks across TV, video on demand and social, and it shows 41 Google ads by domain and 14 active Meta ads. Its advice page offers a free initial consultation through a one-step booking form. Its Trustpilot profile, which covers the whole group, shows 4.5 from 12,496 reviews, with 12 of the latest 20 replied to. The advice page itself is lighter: no fee figures, no FRN and no named advisers. Its clearest gap is owned channels: the advice page links to no social accounts, and quilter.com appeared in none of our 10 searches.
Fairstone, 4.4
Fairstone scores 4.4. Trade press reported £20bn of client assets and revenue of £168m, up 21%, on 14 October 2025, and Professional Adviser ran Fairstone items on 16 July, 19 August, 2 September and 7 October 2026. Its review base is strong at 4.9 from 15,462 Trustpilot reviews, though none of the latest 20 has a reply. Paid activity is steady, with 19 Google ads by domain and 19 active Meta ads. The homepage offers a phone number and an online adviser-matching enquiry, and names an adviser, Matthew Jeffery. Its clearest gap is the homepage itself: when read on 12 October 2026 it showed 2024 articles, no social links, no email signup and no fees, and fairstone.co.uk appeared in none of our 10 searches.
VouchedFor, 3.9
VouchedFor scores 3.9. Like Unbiased, it is a matching and review site rather than an advice firm. Reviews score 7 from 4.7 on 1,066 Trustpilot reviews, with no replies on the latest 20. Paid scores 6 on 86 Google ads, with no Meta ads from its own page. Its website scores 6, with an adviser search but no fee figures. Social scores 4 for three platforms and email 0, and vouchedfor.co.uk appeared in none of 10 UK searches, while Unbiased appeared in most of them.
Openwork, 2.7
Openwork scores 2.7, the lowest of the ten. It is a partnership of advice firms, and its website scores 7 for a find-an-adviser route with FCA authorisation stated. Reviews score 0, as its Trustpilot profile shows no reviews. No Google or Meta ads were found, email scores 0 and openwork.uk.com appeared in none of 10 UK searches. Brand scores 4 for one name and a clear line.
What the channels show
Search goes to platforms, not firms
Unbiased appeared in 7 of 10 UK searches on 12 October and scores 10 for search. On 22 October, St. James’s Place appeared through its Bristol and Glasgow location pages and Hargreaves Lansdown through its pension advice and Bristol pages. VouchedFor, a second matching site, appeared in none. Town searches mostly returned Unbiased location pages and directories such as financialadvisers.co.uk.
Reviews: volume is common, replies are not
Six of the ten have more than 5,000 Trustpilot reviews. True Potential (4.9 from 23,765) and Fairstone (4.9 from 15,462) showed no replies in their latest 20. Unbiased replied to 17, and St. James’s Place and Hargreaves Lansdown to 15 each. Openwork’s profile has no reviews at all.
Fees are rarely published
Only three brands put advice fee figures on their sites. True Potential lists a 0.50% ongoing advice fee and initial advice of up to 4%; Evelyn Partners says individual advice typically starts from £2,000; Hargreaves Lansdown shows a £995 minimum for investment advice. The other seven show no fee figure on the pages we read.
Big ad budgets, thin owned channels
Unbiased runs about 700 Google ads by domain and Hargreaves Lansdown about 400. Yet Quilter’s advice page and Fairstone’s homepage link to no social accounts, and four brands show no email capture.
Key lessons for any financial advice firm
Publish what advice costs
Put a starting fee or your percentage scale on a page of its own. True Potential, Evelyn Partners and Hargreaves Lansdown do, and all three score 8 on website. Most firms leave this blank.
Build a page for each town you serve
Unbiased appeared for Manchester, Leeds, Bristol and Glasgow searches through its location pages, and St. James’s Place for Bristol and Glasgow. One page per town with your office address, the advisers based there and the services you offer locally helps people searching nearby find you.
Reply to every review
Unbiased replied to 17 of its latest 20 Trustpilot reviews. Fairstone and True Potential replied to none. A short, careful reply that never discusses a client’s affairs shows prospects that feedback is read.
Show your people and your FRN
Evelyn Partners names partners and directors, and True Potential prints its firm reference numbers on the homepage. Put your advisers’ names, qualifications and your FRN where visitors can see them.
Collect your first reviews
Openwork’s Trustpilot profile shows no reviews, which costs it the whole reviews score. A simple request after each first meeting starts the record.
Steal this playbook
Five moves from this leaderboard, ranked by return on effort.
- Reply to your reviews. True Potential and Fairstone hold 4.9 ratings but replied to none of their latest 20 reviews, which costs both points on this board.
- Publish a starting fee. Only three of the ten brands show fee figures, so a clear price page stands out in this trade.
- Link your social accounts from your site. Quilter’s advice page and Fairstone link to none and score 0 for social.
- Build honest town pages. Unbiased appeared in 7 of 10 searches, four of them town searches, through its location pages.
- Give visitors a reason to leave an email. Unbiased’s free guides earn it 6 on email; four brands capture none.

How we scored
Who is on the board. Ten UK financial advice brands a consumer is likely to meet, spanning models: a restricted national advice arm of a listed group (Quilter), an acquisitive independent advice house with regional hubs (Fairstone), a vertically integrated restricted adviser network plus platform (True Potential), a premium wealth manager with financial planning (Evelyn Partners, now NatWest-owned), an adviser-matching platform (Unbiased), the largest UK wealth management partnership (St. James’s Place), an investment platform with an advice service (Hargreaves Lansdown), an independent advice firm (Chase de Vere), an adviser review and matching site (VouchedFor) and a partnership of advice firms (Openwork). St. James’s Place was left out of the first edition because it appears on another of our boards; it is added here because it is the advice brand a consumer is most likely to meet. Chosen for relevance and size, not marketing strength.
When we looked. The board launched with five brands, read on 12 October 2026. Five more were added on 22 October 2026 to make a top ten, read against the same anchors below, with the same ten searches run again on that date. The first five were not re-read, so their figures are as of 12 October. Meta Ad Library counts for brands added on 22 October were read on 23 October 2026, after the library was unavailable on 22 October. This applies to the five brands added on 22 October; the first five keep the Paid scores they were given on 12 October, which include Meta.
- Social: which platforms the brand links to from its own site, and whether we could see recent posting and video.
- Website: 2 for a brochure page, 4 with a contact route on mobile, 6 with a page per service and a one-step enquiry, 8 with prices or ranges and registration numbers shown, 10 with online booking or an instant priced quote.
- Email: visible capture only, as we did not subscribe test inboxes for this edition. 2 for a bare newsletter form, up to 10 for a loyalty or app ecosystem with personal offers.
- SEO: ten UK searches for this trade, run through a standard web search API (12 October 2026 for the first five brands, 22 October 2026 for the five added) (not personalised, no location set beyond the town in the query); we counted how many returned the brand’s own site in the top ten results. 0 of 10 scores 2, 1 to 2 scores 4, 3 to 4 scores 6, 5 to 6 scores 8, 7 or more scores 10, plus 1 for a substantial advice library. The searches: financial adviser near me UK; independent financial adviser UK; pension advice UK financial adviser; inheritance tax planning advice UK; how much does a financial adviser cost UK; financial adviser Manchester; financial adviser Leeds; financial adviser Bristol; financial adviser Glasgow; financial adviser Birmingham.
- Paid: the Google Ads Transparency Centre (UK, last 30 days, by domain) and the Meta Ad Library (UK, active ads whose text names the brand, counted by the advertiser page). 2 for nothing found in either, 4 for active in one with fewer than 10 ads, 6 for active in both or 10+ in one, 8 for active in both with 10+ in at least one, 10 for 50+ Google ads and 10+ Meta ads. Paid describes visible activity, not quality. A low paid score is not a fault.
- Reviews: a fixed formula. Rating (4.7+ scores 4, 4.5 to 4.69 scores 3, 4.0 to 4.49 scores 2, 3.5 to 3.99 scores 1) plus volume (10,000+ scores 4, 1,000+ scores 3, 100+ scores 2, 20+ scores 1) plus replies to the latest 20 reviews (half or more scores 2, some scores 1).
- Brand: five checks worth 2 each: the same name and logo everywhere, one clear positioning line, a distinctive asset used for years, three or more independent press mentions in 90 days, and named people or expertise on the site.
These anchors are fixed for this edition, so the ten scores can be read against each other. Boards published before October 2026 used scores relative to the other brands on the board, so compare across boards with care.
Common questions
Which financial adviser brand scores highest on the Whito leaderboard?
Unbiased scores highest of the ten compared, at 7.3 out of 10. It is an adviser-matching platform rather than an advice firm. It led on search, appearing in 7 of 10 UK searches, and scored 9 for reviews with 4.5 from 12,539 Trustpilot reviews. The score measures marketing visibility only, not the quality of advice.
Which brand scores lowest, and why?
Openwork scores lowest at 2.7. Its Trustpilot profile shows no reviews, no Google or Meta ads were found, it showed no email sign-up and it appeared in none of 10 UK searches. Its website scores 7 for a find-an-adviser route with FCA authorisation stated.
How do the ten compare on reviews?
True Potential has the largest base, 4.9 from 23,765, and Hargreaves Lansdown 4.2 from 21,371. Chase de Vere holds 4.9 from 1,154 and replies to 14 of its latest 20. Unbiased answered 17 of its latest 20, while Fairstone and True Potential answered none. Openwork has no Trustpilot reviews.

Publish a starting fee or fee scale, as True Potential, Evelyn Partners and Hargreaves Lansdown do. Build a page for each town you serve. Reply to every review. Show your advisers’ names and your FRN. Offer a plain guide that collects email.
Do financial advisers publish their fees online?
Three of the ten did. True Potential publishes a 0.50% ongoing advice fee and initial advice of up to 4%, Evelyn Partners states individual advice typically starts from £2,000, and Hargreaves Lansdown shows a £995 minimum for investment advice. The others showed no fee figures on the pages we read.
Method, limits and legal position
This page is general information for UK businesses. It is not financial, insurance or legal advice, and it does not take account of your circumstances. Fees, rates, terms and eligibility change, so check the provider’s own current terms, and take regulated advice where you need it, before you act.
Whito Ltd is not authorised by the FCA, holds no firm reference number and cannot approve financial promotions under section 21 of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000. Nothing on this page is an invitation or inducement to take out any financial product, and nobody pays to appear on Whito.
Where this page describes a firm’s published prices, terms or register entry, that is a dated record of what the firm or the register showed, not a verdict on the firm. A firm being on the FCA register does not prove that the person contacting you works for it: clone firms copy real firms’ details. Contact a firm using the details listed on the register, and if they do not match, call the FCA on 0800 111 6768.
