Envirochem scores highest of the ten UK asbestos surveying and removal brands compared, at 4.1 out of 10 on the Whito leaderboard.

Opinion and analysis. Whito read every brand below by hand, using publicly visible activity only: the first five on 12 October 2026 and the five added to make this a top ten on 22 October 2026, against the same fixed anchors and the same ten searches. Each channel is scored 0 to 10, set out under How we scored, so a score describes what we could see on the day, not the quality or safety of the work. Brands cannot pay to appear or to change a score. Where a figure is not published, we say so.

Asbestos work is sold on compliance, so most firms assume accreditations do the marketing. On this board, the accreditations are there and almost everything else is missing.

None of the ten brands appeared in our 10 UK searches. Only Envirochem has a Trustpilot record worth the name, 4.5 from 121 reviews. The highest average is 4.1, and only two brands, Envirochem and Acorn Analytical Services, ran Google ads in the 30 days before we read them.

Ethos Environmental scores lowest at 1.4. Its homepage links no social profiles, captures no email, shows a phone number and email only, and has no Trustpilot profile.

What can your business learn?

What the channels show

Search is held by one survey site and the directories

None of the ten brands appeared in any of our 10 UK searches. A single survey business’s cost and city pages took most of the cost and town results, alongside quote sites, council pages and trade directories. The national consultancies and contractors here are absent from the searches homeowners and landlords run.

Reviews barely exist

Envirochem holds 4.5 from 121 Trustpilot reviews and replies to 12 of its latest 20, and scores 7 on reviews. The other nine have no profile, an empty profile or three reviews or fewer. A buyer comparing asbestos firms has almost nothing public to go on.

Accreditations are shown; prices are not

Envirochem shows its UKAS numbers and Armac its ARCA member number. Only Asbestos Essentials shows a price, surveys from £99. A landlord with a garage roof wants a starting price before calling.

Paid search is patchy

Envirochem ran 21 Google ads and Acorn Analytical Services 17 in 30 days. The other eight ran none we could find.

Key lessons for any asbestos business

Publish a starting price

Asbestos Essentials is the only brand showing a price. A from-price for a management survey and for a garage roof removal answers the question the cost searches show people are asking.

Build pages for the towns you cover

None of these ten brands appeared in our town searches. A page per town with your licence status, accreditations and recent jobs competes where national firms are absent.

Start collecting reviews

Nine of the ten have no meaningful review record. A few dozen genuine reviews from domestic and landlord jobs would set a local firm apart.

Name the people

Lucion, Tersus, Thames Laboratories and Acorn name their people. Buyers want to know who will survey their building and what qualifications they hold.

Steal this playbook

Five moves from this leaderboard, ranked by return on effort.

  1. Publish a from-price for a survey. Only one of the ten brands does.
  2. Ask every domestic client for a review. Nine of ten have no meaningful Trustpilot record.
  3. Write a page per town and a cost guide. None of the ten appeared in our 10 UK searches.
  4. Show your licence and accreditation numbers. Envirochem shows its UKAS numbers on the page.
  5. Offer a quote form, not just a phone number. Ethos Environmental shows only a phone and email.

The evidence behind the scores

One line per channel, as read on the date shown for each brand. Review figures change daily; these are the numbers on the day we looked.

How we scored

Who is on the board. Ten UK asbestos brands a duty holder, landlord or homeowner is likely to meet, spanning models: a national environmental consultancy with 20+ offices (Lucion), a group-owned national compliance consultancy (Tersus, part of the Marlowe Group, which absorbed Santia), an independent regional consultancy with its own lab (Thames Laboratories, East Anglia and London), an HSE-licensed removal contractor that sells to homeowners with a published survey price (Asbestos Essentials), a demolition contractor with an HSE asbestos licence (Armac), an independent asbestos consultancy (Acorn Analytical Services), a UKAS-accredited testing laboratory and inspection body (Envirochem), a national testing, inspection and certification group (SOCOTEC UK), a specialist enabling works and removal contractor (Rhodar) and a UKAS-accredited testing and inspection firm (Ethos Environmental). Chosen for relevance and size, not marketing strength. For the first five, HSE licence status was checked against the HSE licensed contractor list as republished weekly by UKATA (table ‘Last updated 12/10/2026’): https://www.ukata.org.uk/library/hse-licensed-asbestos-removal-contractors-register/. Licence status was not re-checked for the five added on 22 October 2026. Consultancies survey and test rather than remove, so they do not need a removal licence.

When we looked. The board launched with five brands, read on 12 October 2026. Five more were added on 22 October 2026 to make a top ten, read against the same anchors below, with the same ten searches run again on that date. The first five were not re-read, so their figures are as of 12 October. Meta Ad Library counts for brands added on 22 October were read on 23 October 2026, after the library was unavailable on 22 October.

  • Social: which platforms the brand links to from its own site, and whether we could see recent posting and video.
  • Website: 2 for a brochure page, 4 with a contact route on mobile, 6 with a page per service and a one-step enquiry, 8 with prices or ranges and registration numbers shown, 10 with online booking or an instant priced quote.
  • Email: visible capture only, as we did not subscribe test inboxes for this edition. 2 for a bare newsletter form, up to 10 for a loyalty or app ecosystem with personal offers.
  • SEO: ten UK searches for this trade, run through a standard web search API (12 October 2026 for the first five brands, 22 October 2026 for the five added; not personalised, no location set beyond the town in the query); we counted how many returned the brand’s own site in the top ten results. 0 of 10 scores 2, 1 to 2 scores 4, 3 to 4 scores 6, 5 to 6 scores 8, 7 or more scores 10, plus 1 for a substantial advice library. The searches: asbestos removal near me; asbestos survey cost UK; asbestos testing UK; licensed asbestos removal contractor; asbestos garage roof removal cost; asbestos removal London; asbestos survey Manchester; asbestos removal Birmingham; asbestos survey Leeds; asbestos removal Glasgow.
  • Paid: the Google Ads Transparency Centre (UK, last 30 days, by domain) and the Meta Ad Library (UK, active ads whose text names the brand, counted by the advertiser page). 2 for nothing found in either, 4 for active in one with fewer than 10 ads, 6 for active in both or 10+ in one, 8 for active in both with 10+ in at least one, 10 for 50+ Google ads and 10+ Meta ads. Paid describes visible activity, not quality. A low paid score is not a fault.
  • Reviews: a fixed formula. Rating (4.7+ scores 4, 4.5 to 4.69 scores 3, 4.0 to 4.49 scores 2, 3.5 to 3.99 scores 1) plus volume (10,000+ scores 4, 1,000+ scores 3, 100+ scores 2, 20+ scores 1) plus replies to the latest 20 reviews (half or more scores 2, some scores 1).
  • Brand: five checks worth 2 each: the same name and logo everywhere, one clear positioning line, a distinctive asset used for years, three or more independent press mentions in 90 days, and named people or expertise on the site.

These anchors are fixed for this edition, so the ten scores can be read against each other, allowing for the ten days between the two reading dates. Boards published before October 2026 used scores relative to the other brands on the board, so compare across boards with care.

Common questions

Which asbestos brand scores highest on the Whito leaderboard?

Envirochem scores highest at 4.1 out of 10, ahead of Acorn Analytical Services and Lucion on 3.7. Envirochem shows its UKAS accreditation numbers, ran 21 Google ads in 30 days and holds 4.5 from 121 Trustpilot reviews with replies to 12 of the latest 20. The score measures visible marketing, not the quality or safety of any work.

Which asbestos brand scores lowest?

Ethos Environmental scores 1.4. Its homepage links no social profiles, captures no email, offers a phone number and email but no form, ran no Google ads and has no Trustpilot profile.

How do asbestos brands compare on reviews?

Only Envirochem has a meaningful Trustpilot record, 4.5 from 121 reviews. Tersus has 2 reviews and SOCOTEC UK 3; Lucion and Acorn have empty profiles; the other five have no profile at all.

Do asbestos firms publish prices?

Rarely. Asbestos Essentials shows surveys from £99; none of the other nine shows a price on the pages read.

What can a local asbestos firm copy from these brands?

Show your licence and accreditation numbers, as Envirochem and Armac do. Then go further than all ten: publish a from-price, collect reviews from domestic and landlord jobs, and build a page for each town you cover.
