The UK does not have a real benchmark for what SMBs actually pay for SEO, or what agencies actually charge. Whito is building one. You can help by spending 12 to 15 minutes on a confidential survey, and you get the full benchmark report three days before it goes public.
What this is
An annual, pre-registered study of UK SEO pricing. The 2027 edition targets a 100+ UK agency sample and a 200+ UK SMB buyer sample, with published methodology, open hypotheses, and a third-party reviewer. The finished report is free to read.
If you want the design specification first, the full methodology is here, the survey instruments are here, and the analysis and chart plan is here.
Why your response matters
Most pricing benchmarks in this category rely on tiny samples, opt-in panels, or vendor-run claims. This study is the opposite. Every cell in the report is sized, every exclusion is logged, and every hypothesis is pre-registered before the field period opens. That only works if real UK agencies and real UK SMB buyers take part. The quality of the output is a direct function of who fills in the form.
What you get as a participant
Agencies and independent consultants. Early access to the full benchmark report 72 hours before public release, a named acknowledgement in the report (or anonymous if preferred), and a short chart pack you can use internally. No fee. The survey takes 12 to 15 minutes.
SMB buyers. A £20 Amazon voucher, or a £25 donation to a UK charity of your choice, sent within 14 days of submission. Early access to the full report 72 hours before public release. The survey takes 10 to 12 minutes.
Partner bodies and trade associations. One dedicated email to members or one newsletter placement during the field period (September and October 2026), in exchange for a named acknowledgement, a first-look copy of the full dataset 72 hours before release, and a co-branded one-page summary for your own channel. Contact details below.
Who qualifies
Agency or consultant side
- UK-registered agency or independent consultant
- SEO is a material part of the service offer (not a tangential add-on)
- You price and deliver SEO work to UK SMB clients (£250k to £25m annual revenue is the target client band)
- You can speak to pricing, packaging and retainer structure with reference to real recent quotes
SMB buyer side
- UK-registered small or medium business
- You have paid an external supplier for SEO work in the last 24 months
- You have direct visibility of what you paid, what was delivered, and what it produced
- You are comfortable sharing anonymised spend ranges (exact figures are optional, ranges are not)
If you are not sure whether you qualify, fill the form anyway and note it in the company field. The research team will confirm within one working day.
Privacy and consent, in plain terms
The study runs under UK GDPR. The short version:
- Your responses are confidential. Nothing you say is linked to your name or your company in any published output. Every chart in the final report is aggregate only.
- Raw PII is held for no longer than 60 days after publication, then permanently deleted. The working dataset keeps pseudonymised responses only.
- You can withdraw at any time during the field period, and up to 30 days post-publication, by replying to any study email. Withdrawal is confirmed in writing.
- The lawful basis is explicit consent. The data controller is Whito Ltd. The full privacy notice is linked from the survey platform and is also hosted here.
- No third party receives your individual responses. Panel top-up respondents are flagged separately in the working dataset and any chart that uses them discloses the share.
How the process runs end-to-end
- You submit the form below. We reply within one working day with the survey link and the methodology PDF.
- You complete the survey at your own pace. A save-and-resume link is provided. The field period closes on 31 October 2026.
- You receive the full benchmark report by email on 17 January 2027, three days before the public release on 20 January 2027.
- If you opted in, we contact you for a 20-minute follow-up interview in November 2026. Participation is voluntary.
Express interest
Fill in the short form below. This is a request for the survey link, not the survey itself. The survey link is sent by email within one working day, together with the methodology PDF.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a sales funnel?
No. Whito does not sell SEO services. The study is how Whito earns the right to write about UK SEO pricing with authority. Whito’s commercial model is set out on the disclosures page.
Can I see the questions before I commit?
Yes. The survey instruments page publishes every question on both the agency and SMB instruments in full, word for word, before the field period opens.
What happens if my submission does not match the quota?
If a specific cell (for example, home-services SMBs in the South East with £1m to £5m revenue) is already full, your response may be thanked and excluded from the main dataset. You still receive the report and the voucher or donation. The exclusion rate is reported in full in the methodology addendum.
Will my company be named?
No, unless you explicitly opt in for acknowledgement. Every aggregate chart is confidential by design. Named quotes appear only where you have ticked the named-quote opt-in and approved the exact wording before publication.
Who is actually running this?
Jacob Whitmore, founder of Whito Ltd, is the named data controller and lead researcher. The external reviewer is confirmed before the field period opens and is named in the published report. Review correspondence is logged and retained.
Partner bodies and trade associations
If you run a membership list or a trade newsletter that reaches UK agencies or UK SMB buyers, Whito would like to talk about a distribution partnership. The ask is one dedicated member email or one newsletter placement, in exchange for a named acknowledgement in the published report, first-look dataset access, and a co-branded one-pager.
Write to research@whito.co.uk with the subject line “UK SEO Pricing Study 2027, distribution partnership”. Expected response within two working days.
