Renewable Energy Installer Marketing Guide UK 2026

Marketing for renewable energy installers

Grants create the demand. They do not decide who gets the job. This page covers the part you control: whether a homeowner can find you and check you before anyone picks up the phone.

FINDING

Heat pump quotes for a typical three bed UK home range from around £9,000 to £13,000, and after the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant most households still pay between £1,500 and £5,500, according to Whito’s July 2026 review of published cost data.

Start, Build, Scale

The right order for renewable installers

Do the stages in order. Nothing in Build works while Start is missing.

Start, Build, Scale for renewable installers: the free foundations first, then systems and proof, then measurement. The three stages are listed in full in this figure.

Start

  • MCS number in text
  • TrustMark and RECC named where held
  • Google Business Profile complete

Build

  • One page per technology and area
  • Real installs, with photos
  • Grant explainers kept current

Scale

  • Track cost per install won
  • Cut lead platforms that do not pay
  • Referrals from every completed install

What we know, and what we have not measured yet

Whito has not yet run an AI visibility study on renewable energy installers. The four figures above come from cross-industry work: 159 Google AI Mode answers logged in August 2026, 64 tradespeople checked against Companies House in July 2026, and 120 independent UK business websites audited in July 2026. They describe the trades as a whole, so treat them as background. A renewables study would read differently.

One thing has moved since our heat pump costing was published. Checked on gov.uk on 3 September 2026, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme pays £7,500 for an air source or ground source heat pump, £5,000 for a biomass boiler and £2,500 for an air to air heat pump, with an extra £1,500 for homes off the gas grid running on oil or LPG, available until March 2027. Our July figure predates that uplift and is being updated.

When the renewables engine study runs, naming which installers ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Mode actually recommend across UK cities, it lands on this page first.

The three mistakes we see most

Selling the grant, not the install

Every competitor quotes the same grant. Repeating the number tells a homeowner nothing about whether to pick you. The grant brings them to the search. What you publish decides who they ring.

No price anywhere

Fewer than half of 200 independent UK business websites publish any price at all, in Whito’s August 2026 study. On a five figure install, a range and what moves it is the difference between an enquiry and a bounce.

Certification kept in the footer

MCS, TrustMark, RECC and OZEV numbers are the strongest proof you own, and they usually sit as a small grey logo at the bottom of the page. Put the scheme names and the numbers in text.

Start, build, scale

Fix them in that order.

Start: make yourself checkable

Registration numbers in text, the technologies you actually install, the areas you cover, and a price range. If a homeowner cannot verify you in thirty seconds, the grant paperwork will worry them more than the install does.

Build: a page per technology and per grant

Solar, air source, ground source, EV charging and insulation are different buying decisions with different questions. One page called Renewables answers none of them well. Write the pages the searches actually ask for.

Scale: measure quotes to installs

Grant funded work has a long, interrupted sales cycle. Track enquiry to survey, survey to quote, quote to install, and the cost of each. Spend more only where a stage is already converting.

The register that matters

MCS, TrustMark, RECC and the OZEV list

MCS runs a public Find an Installer directory, and gov.uk tells homeowners to get quotes from MCS certified installers for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, with the installer applying to Ofgem on their behalf. For chargepoint grants, only OZEV authorised installers can claim, and authorisation needs a competent person scheme number or ECA membership. RECC is approved by the Chartered Trading Standards Institute and is a TrustMark scheme operator. All checked 3 September 2026. If those numbers are not written on your own website, no search engine and no AI engine can use them.

Two free things

Before you spend anything, see what the machines can actually read on your site. It takes a few minutes and costs nothing: the Whito Visibility Check.

You can also list your business at no cost in the Whito directory.

Whito is independent and companies cannot pay to appear. Grant rules and amounts change: check gov.uk before quoting a figure to a customer.
