What we found

Vendor and planPublished price, excluding VAT
Dentally Starter£125 a month for 1 surgery, up to £575 a month for 8 surgeries
Dentally Essentials£220 a month for 1 surgery, up to £720 a month for 8 surgeries
Dentally Pro£320 a month for 1 surgery, up to £945 a month for 8 surgeries
Software of Excellence, EXACTNot published. The site directs to get in touch

Dentally prices by number of surgeries per site rather than per user, with a slider from one to nine, all tiers showing unlimited maximum users, and nine or more surgeries requiring contact. Setup fees and minimum terms are not published.

Carestream Dental and iSmile we could not verify, because we did not open a vendor pricing page for either and we do not cite URLs we have not read.

Why the pricing unit matters more than the number

Pricing by surgery rather than by user is unusual and it suits this sector well. A practice’s cost scales with its physical capacity rather than with headcount, so adding a part-time hygienist or an associate does not change the bill.

It also makes forecasting straightforward in a way per-user pricing does not. If you are planning a fourth surgery, you can read the cost off the slider before you commit to the fit-out.

One consequence to check before signing: if you run multiple sites, confirm whether pricing is per site or aggregated across the group, because the arithmetic differs sharply for a three-site practice with two surgeries each.

The wider pattern

When Whito read every live pricing page of 27 business software vendors in August 2026, only 9 published a genuine price in pounds for UK buyers and only 6 stated whether VAT was included.

Dental is better than most on this measure, largely because one vendor has decided transparency is a competitive position. That is worth noticing, because it is exactly the argument this site makes to practices about their own price lists.

What to ask before you sign

  1. Price in pounds, per surgery or per site, and does it include VAT?
  2. Setup, data migration and training fees, stated separately.
  3. Minimum term and what the price does at renewal.
  4. Can you export the full clinical record set, including notes, radiographs and photographs, in a usable format, and at what cost?
  5. Where is the data hosted, who is the data controller, and what is the retention period after you leave?
  6. How does the price change when you add a surgery, and when you add a site?

Question four is the one with real weight in dentistry. Clinical records must be retained for long periods and may be needed for a complaint or a claim years later. A system that makes radiographs hard to extract is not a procurement problem, it is a clinical governance one.

Get the answer in the contract, in writing, including the format and the cost.

The rest of the stack

For context on what everything else should cost, Whito’s price check of 50 tools on 2 July 2026 put a credible sole trader software stack at about £18 a month, and a five person service business at roughly £2,635 a year including VAT, about £44 per person per month.

A single-surgery practice on Dentally Pro at £320 a month is spending £3,840 a year excluding VAT on practice management alone. That is a defensible number for a system holding clinical records, and it is worth reviewing annually against what it actually saves rather than renewing by default.

Common questions

How much does dental practice software cost in the UK?

Dentally publishes £125 to £575 a month for Starter, £220 to £720 for Essentials and £320 to £945 for Pro, excluding VAT, depending on the number of surgeries from one to eight. Software of Excellence publishes no price.

Is it priced per user?

Dentally prices by number of surgeries per site, with all tiers showing unlimited maximum users. That means adding staff does not change the bill, but adding a surgery does.

What is the most important contract term?

Export. Confirm in writing that you can extract the full clinical record set, including notes, radiographs and photographs, in a usable format, at what cost, and how long data is retained after you leave.
