The Whito framework runs Start, Build, Scale, in that order. Pest control adds two twists: demand is urgent and partly seasonal, and the trade’s credibility problem means proof outweighs promotion at every stage.

Start: checkable and answerable

A Google Business Profile in your real trading name with true hours. A simple site carrying your proof in text, BPCA or NPTA number, technician qualifications, CRRU training, insurance, company number, and three dated from-prices: wasp, rodent course, general insect visit. A phone that always answers or texts back. That is Start. It is free, and it already separates you from the van with a ladder and a hose.

Build: pages, seasons, contracts

Build is where pest control gets its shape. A page per pest, each with treatment, price range and honest advice, published before its season: wasp pages live by June for the September peak the BPCA describes, rodent pages refreshed before autumn brings mice indoors. A review habit tied to the follow-up visit. And the commercial layer most small firms never systematise: food businesses, landlords and letting agents need routine pest contracts, and one letter to twenty local food premises offering a documented quarterly visit builds annuity revenue no wasp season matches.

Scale: spend where the season pays

Scale is seasonal budget on top of a base that converts. Paid search on wasp terms in July converts; the same spend in February burns. Rodent and commercial work justify steadier spend. Measure to answered calls, ask every enquiry where they found you, and drop what you cannot attribute after a season. Directory memberships live here too: Checkatrade’s entry tier is published at £30 plus VAT a month, so treat it as one measured channel among several, never the foundation. Structure before scale, in a trade where the structure is proof.

Common questions

How should a new pest control firm start marketing?

Free foundations first: a complete Google profile, proof and prices in text on a simple site, and answered calls. Urgent local demand goes to the first credible answer, and credibility is built before the phone rings.

How do pest control companies get commercial contracts?

Directly. Food businesses, landlords and letting agents need documented routine pest control, and a plain offer letter to nearby premises, quarterly visits, reports they can file, a named technician, builds recurring revenue faster than any consumer channel.

When should pest controllers pay for advertising?

Seasonally, on top of working free channels: wasp terms in summer, rodents in autumn. Measure to answered calls and drop unattributable spend after each season.
