The Whito checks
What we look at before a business appears, and what “Verified” actually means.
Built for AI search
More people ask ChatGPT, Gemini or Google a question before they ever see a results page. Every Whito listing is published with structured data, verified key facts and plain FAQs, so AI assistants can read it and cite it. Our own research found the three big engines agree on the best local tradesperson just 8% of the time, because there is no trusted source to cite. We are building that source.

Common questions
How are businesses ranked on Whito?
On verifiable signals: Companies House records, registration schemes such as NICEIC and Gas Safe, and years trading. Reviews and star ratings play no part. Verified businesses appear first, then listings are ordered alphabetically. Position is never for sale.
Do businesses pay to appear here?
No. Listing is free and most businesses are added from public information before they have done anything. There is no paid listing tier and no paid profile feature, and paying cannot change where a business appears. You can read exactly how we make money on our How we make money page.
Are these businesses vetted?
Listings marked “Unclaimed” come from public information and have not been independently checked, though where we could confirm a firm at Companies House its profile says so. When a business claims its listing we confirm its details and a working contact, and mark it “Verified”. We never publish invented reviews or star ratings.
How do I get my business listed?
Use the List your business page. A basic listing is free: we confirm your details and a working contact, then publish your profile with the structured data AI assistants can read.
What does “built for AI search” mean?
Every listing is published with schema.org structured data, verified key facts and plain-English FAQs, and the site publishes an llms.txt index. That makes listings readable and citeable by AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, which more people now ask before they search.
