Anchor scores highest of the ten UK care home and home care brands compared, at 6.1 out of 10 on the Whito leaderboard.
Opinion and analysis. Whito read every brand below by hand on 22 October 2026, using publicly visible activity only, against fixed anchors and the same ten UK searches. Each channel is scored 0 to 10, set out under How we scored, so a score describes what we could see on the day, not the quality of care. Brands cannot pay to appear or to change a score. Where a figure is not published, we say so.
Families choosing care want two things before they pick up the phone: proof that others trust the provider, and a rough idea of the cost. On this board the proof is everywhere and the price is rare. Only three of the ten brands show a price on their own site, and two of those three sit in the top three.
Anchor scores 6.1, with Bluebird Care on 5.4 and Care UK and Helping Hands level on 5.3. Anchor publishes care home fees of £1,022 to £2,190 a week, appeared in 3 of 10 UK searches and replies to most recent Trustpilot reviews. Every brand on the board was found advertising on Google.
HC-One scores lowest at 3.6. It shows no prices, captures no email, appeared in none of 10 UK searches and holds 1.9 from 21 Trustpilot reviews.

Company verdicts
Anchor, 6.1
Anchor scores 6.1, the highest of the ten. It is one of only three brands here to publish a price: its care home fees page gives private fees from £1,022 to £2,190 a week, which earns a website score of 7. SEO scores 7, level second with Barchester behind Avery Healthcare: anchor.org.uk appeared in 3 of 10 UK searches, for care homes in London, Manchester and Leeds, and a guides and support section adds a point. Paid scores 10, with about 500 Google ads and 107 Meta ads loaded from Anchor’s own pages. Reviews score 7 from 4.2 on 1,913 Trustpilot reviews, with replies to 13 of the latest 20. Email scores 2 for a newsletter form. Brand scores 4: no named leadership was verified on the pages we read.
Bluebird Care, 5.4
Bluebird Care scores 5.4. Reviews score 7 from 4.6 on 1,056 Trustpilot reviews, with replies to 6 of the latest 20. Paid scores 10, with about 500 Google ads and 94 Meta ads loaded from 25 local Bluebird Care office pages. Email scores 2 for a newsletter sign-up on the homepage, one of only three brands here with any email capture. Its weak channel is search: bluebirdcare.co.uk appeared in none of 10 UK searches, so SEO scores 3, with a point for its help and guidance pages. No price is shown.
Care UK, 5.3
Care UK scores 5.3, level third with Helping Hands. Brand scores 6, the joint highest here: one name everywhere, a clear line (‘Trusted to care’) and a management team named on its site. Paid scores 10, with about 300 Google ads and about 1,800 Meta ad results linking to careuk.com, run mainly from individual Care UK home pages. careuk.com appeared in 2 of 10 UK searches, for Birmingham and Leeds, and an advice section adds a point, so SEO scores 5. Reviews score 4 from 3.3 on 164 Trustpilot reviews, lifted by replies to 13 of the latest 20. Its ‘what affects cost’ page shows no figures, and no email capture was found.
Helping Hands, 5.3
Helping Hands scores 5.3, level third with Care UK. Reviews score 9, the highest on the board, from 4.7 on 5,336 Trustpilot reviews, with replies to 16 of the latest 20. Its website scores 7: visiting care is priced from £32.40 an hour, plus a £4.50 travel charge per visit. Brand scores 6 for one name, a clear line (‘Live well in the home you love’) and a named leadership team. helpinghandshomecare.co.uk appeared in 1 of 10 UK searches, and its care advice library adds a point. Paid scores 6, with about 200 Google ads and no Meta ads found from its page. No email capture was found.
Home Instead, 5.1
Home Instead scores 5.1. Its cost page gives worked weekly examples, such as £231 a week for seven hours of personal care and £490 a week for 14 hours of dementia care, which earns a website score of 7. Paid scores 10, with about 3,000 Google ads and 73 Meta ads loaded from 43 local Home Instead office pages. Social scores 6 for five platforms. Reviews are the gap at 2: Trustpilot shows 3.2 from 187 reviews, with no reply on the latest 20. Many families review home care on homecare.co.uk, but the Trustpilot profile is the one any customer can find.
Barchester, 4.7
Barchester scores 4.7. SEO scores 7, level second with Anchor: barchester.com appeared in 4 of 10 UK searches, for care homes in London, Manchester, Birmingham and Bristol, and a help and advice library adds a point. Paid scores 10, with about 2,000 Google ads and 16 Meta ads linking to barchester.com, 13 of them from its careers page. Its line, ‘Where life stories inspire great care’, earns a brand point. Reviews score 2 from 1.6 on 139 Trustpilot reviews, with no reply on the latest 20. No prices or email capture were found.
Sanctuary Care, 4.4
Sanctuary Care scores 4.4. Social scores 6 for four platforms, and a show-round booking form and help and advice section give it a website score of 6 and an advice point. sanctuary-care.co.uk appeared in 2 of 10 UK searches, for London and Birmingham. Paid scores 10, with about 600 Google ads and 11 active Meta ads from its own pages, read on 23 October 2026. Reviews score 0 from 2.8 on 3 Trustpilot reviews. It describes itself as a not-for-profit provider of care ‘for over 25 years’. No prices or email capture were found.
Right at Home, 4.0
Right at Home scores 4.0. Brand scores 6 for one name, a clear line (‘Home Care That Empowers You to Live Well’) and a national team named on its site, including owner and chairman Ken Deary and chief executive Lucy Campbell. Paid scores 8, with about 400 Google ads and 2 Meta ads from local office pages. Its Trustpilot profile shows no reviews, so reviews score 0, although its site displays a 9.8 score from 4,886 reviews on homecare.co.uk. rightathome.co.uk appeared in 1 of 10 UK searches. No prices or email capture were found.
Avery Healthcare, 3.7
Avery Healthcare scores 3.7. It has the best search record here: averyhealthcare.co.uk appeared in 5 of 10 UK searches, the most on the board, so SEO scores 8. Paid scores 10, with about 600 Google ads and about 40 Meta ads from individual Avery home pages. Three channels pull it down. No social links were found on its homepage or About page, so social scores 0. Reviews score 0 from 2.9 on 3 Trustpilot reviews. Brand scores 2: its home pages on Facebook use both ‘Avery Healthcare’ and ‘Avery Collection’. No prices or email capture were found.
HC-One, 3.6
HC-One scores 3.6, the lowest of the ten. Paid scores 6, with about 400 Google ads and no Meta ads found from its page. Its website scores 6 for care type pages and a home finder, with no prices. Social scores 4 for Facebook and LinkedIn. hc-one.co.uk appeared in none of 10 UK searches, with a point for its dementia advice and blog pages. Reviews score 2 from 1.9 on 21 Trustpilot reviews, with a reply on 1 of the latest 20. Brand scores 4 for one name and its ‘caring with kindness’ line. No email capture was found.
What the channels show
Price candour is the rarest trust signal
Only three of the ten brands publish a price. Anchor gives care home fees of £1,022 to £2,190 a week, Helping Hands prices visiting care from £32.40 an hour and Home Instead gives worked weekly examples from £231. All three score 7 on website. Care UK has a page on what affects cost with no figures on it. The other six show no price at all.
Paid search is universal
All ten brands were found advertising on Google in the last 30 days, from about 200 ads for Helping Hands to about 3,000 for Home Instead. Eight score 8 or more on paid. Most of the Meta activity runs through local pages: 43 Home Instead office pages, 25 Bluebird Care office pages and individual Care UK and Avery homes. The national brand page is rarely the advertiser.
Care home groups own the city searches
In the five city searches, care home groups took places: Avery appeared in four, Barchester in four, Anchor in three, Care UK in two and Sanctuary Care in two. The home care brands appeared only for topic searches: Helping Hands and Home Instead for ‘dementia care at home UK’ and Right at Home for ‘home care cost per hour UK’. Directories held ‘home care near me UK’ and the weekly cost search.
Trustpilot is not where families review care
Six of the ten brands have fewer than 200 Trustpilot reviews and Right at Home has none. Right at Home shows a 9.8 score from 4,886 reviews on homecare.co.uk on its own site instead. Helping Hands, with 5,336 Trustpilot reviews and replies to 16 of its latest 20, and Anchor, with 1,913 and replies to 13, are the exceptions. A thin Trustpilot profile with a low rating is still visible to anyone who searches the name.
Key lessons for any care business
Publish a typical weekly cost
The three brands that show a price all score 7 on website, and two of them are in the top three. A fee range, an hourly rate or two worked examples with honest caveats answers the first question a family has.
Reply to your reviews, wherever they sit
Helping Hands replies to 16 of its latest 20 Trustpilot reviews and scores 9 on reviews. Barchester and Home Instead reply to none of their latest 20. Replying costs nothing but time and shows the next family how you handle a concern.
Give families a way to stay in touch
Seven of the ten brands have no visible email capture. Care is a slow decision. A short newsletter or a guide sent by email keeps you in front of a family who is not ready to call this week.
Build a page for every home and town
The five city searches were won by care home groups with a page per city. A page for your home or office with your town in the title, real photos, your CQC rating and a typical cost competes for the searches that fill rooms and rotas.
Keep one name everywhere
Avery’s home pages on Facebook use two names, which costs it a brand point. Use the same name on your sign, website, Google profile and social accounts.
Steal this playbook
Five moves from this leaderboard, ranked by return on effort.
- Reply to every review you have. Helping Hands replies to 16 of its latest 20 and scores 9 on reviews; Barchester replies to none and scores 2.
- Publish a typical cost. Only three of ten brands show a price, and all three score 7 on website.
- Add an email sign-up or a guide by email. Seven of the ten brands capture no email at all.
- Build a page for each town or home. Care home groups with city pages took most of the five city searches.
- Link your social profiles from your website. Avery Healthcare links none and scores 0 on social.

How we scored
Who is on the board. Ten UK brands a family is likely to meet when choosing a care home or care at home: Barchester (care home group with 200+ homes), Care UK (care home group), HC-One (care home group), Avery Healthcare (care home group), Sanctuary Care (not-for-profit care home provider), Anchor (not-for-profit provider of care homes and retirement housing), Home Instead (national home care franchise), Bluebird Care (national home care franchise), Right at Home (national home care franchise) and Helping Hands (national home care and live-in care provider). Chosen for relevance and size, not marketing strength.
When we looked. All ten brands were read on 22 October 2026, with the ten searches below run on the same day. This board was first published with scores relative to the other brands on it. On 22 October 2026 it was rescored on Whito’s fixed anchors and expanded to ten brands, so scores are not comparable with the earlier edition.
- Social: which platforms the brand links to from its own site, and whether we could see recent posting and video.
- Website: 2 for a brochure page, 4 with a contact route on mobile, 6 with a page per service and a one-step enquiry, 8 with prices or ranges and registration numbers shown, 10 with online booking or an instant priced quote.
- Email: visible capture only, as we did not subscribe test inboxes for this edition. 2 for a bare newsletter form, up to 10 for a loyalty or app ecosystem with personal offers.
- SEO: ten UK searches for this sector, run through a standard web search API on 22 October 2026 (not personalised, no location set beyond the town in the query); we counted how many returned the brand’s own site in the top ten results. 0 of 10 scores 2, 1 to 2 scores 4, 3 to 4 scores 6, 5 to 6 scores 8, 7 or more scores 10, plus 1 for a substantial advice library. The searches: home care near me UK; care home costs UK per week; home care cost per hour UK; residential care homes for elderly; dementia care at home UK; care homes London; care homes Manchester; care homes Birmingham; care homes Leeds; care homes Bristol.
- Paid: the Google Ads Transparency Centre (UK, last 30 days, by domain) and the Meta Ad Library (UK, active ads, counted by the brand’s own advertiser pages, including local office and home pages). 2 for nothing found in either, 4 for active in one with fewer than 10 ads, 6 for active in both or 10+ in one, 8 for active in both with 10+ in at least one, 10 for 50+ Google ads and 10+ Meta ads. Paid describes visible activity, not quality. A low paid score is not a fault.
- Reviews: a fixed formula on Trustpilot, used for every board for consistency, although many families review care on carehome.co.uk and homecare.co.uk. Rating (4.7+ scores 4, 4.5 to 4.69 scores 3, 4.0 to 4.49 scores 2, 3.5 to 3.99 scores 1) plus volume (10,000+ scores 4, 1,000+ scores 3, 100+ scores 2, 20+ scores 1) plus replies to the latest 20 reviews (half or more scores 2, some scores 1).
- Brand: five checks worth 2 each: the same name and logo everywhere, one clear positioning line, a distinctive asset used for years, three or more independent press mentions in 90 days, and named people or expertise on the site.
These anchors are fixed for this edition, so the ten scores can be read against each other. Boards published before October 2026 used scores relative to the other brands on the board, so compare across boards with care.

Which care brand scores lowest, and why?
HC-One scores 3.6. It shows no prices, captures no email, links only two social platforms and appeared in none of 10 UK searches. Its Trustpilot rating is 1.9 from 21 reviews, with a reply on 1 of the latest 20.
Which care brands publish their prices?
Three of the ten. Anchor gives care home fees from £1,022 to £2,190 a week, Helping Hands prices visiting care from £32.40 an hour plus a £4.50 travel charge, and Home Instead gives worked examples such as £231 a week for seven hours of personal care. The other seven show no figures.
How do these care brands compare on reviews?
On Trustpilot, Helping Hands leads with 4.7 from 5,336 reviews and replies to 16 of its latest 20. Anchor has 4.2 from 1,913 and Bluebird Care 4.6 from 1,056. Six brands have fewer than 200 Trustpilot reviews and Right at Home has none, though it shows a 9.8 score from 4,886 reviews on homecare.co.uk.
What can a small care provider copy from these brands?
Publish a typical weekly cost, as only three of the ten do. Reply to every review. Add a simple email sign-up, since seven of ten capture none. Build a page for your home or town with your CQC rating, as the groups that took the city searches do.
