Job management software for a UK trade business costs between £25 and £45 per user per month, and the two most heavily marketed options do not publish a price at all.

That second point is the one worth pausing on. Commusoft and simPRO both require a sales call before you learn what they charge. Every other option on this page tells you upfront.

Prices below were checked on 27 July 2026 from each vendor own pricing page.

The pricing model matters more than the headline. ServiceM8 at £25 flat for unlimited users is cheaper than Tradify at £34 per user the moment you have two people. At five users, Tradify is £170 a month and ServiceM8 is still £25. Read the second column before the first.

Which one fits which size of business?

The honest split is by headcount and by how much of the job you need the software to carry.

StageWhat you actually needRealistic options
Sole trader, one vanQuotes, invoices, a diary, photos on the jobServiceM8, Powered Now
Two to four peopleThe above plus scheduling and job tracking across a teamTradify, ServiceM8, Powered Now
Five to ten peopleTeam scheduling, stock, certificates, reportingJoblogic, Tradify
Ten plus, or contract heavyPlanned maintenance, asset registers, subcontractorsCommusoft, simPRO, Joblogic
High volume installerFinance integration, surveys, multi-stage jobsPayaca

Most one-van businesses do not need the top two rows. Buying enterprise field service software for a single van is the software equivalent of a 3.5 tonne van for a bathroom fitter.

Why do Commusoft and simPRO hide their prices?

Because the answer depends on modules and headcount, and because a quote lets them price to what you can pay.

That is a legitimate commercial choice. It is also a real cost to you. Every hidden price means a sales call, a discovery meeting and a proposal before you can compare anything, and it makes an honest side by side impossible.

Our position: if you cannot get a number in writing within one email, you are not evaluating software, you are entering a negotiation. Ask for the total first year cost including setup, training and any per user fee, and ask for it in writing.

What else should you check before signing?

Five questions before you commit

  1. Is the price per user or flat? At four people this is the difference between £25 and £136 a month.
  2. Is the quoted price ex VAT? Powered Now, Payaca and Commusoft all state ex VAT, so add 20 percent.
  3. What is the minimum term? Joblogic bills annually, Commusoft runs 12 month contracts, Payaca requires an annual commitment for the headline price.
  4. Does it produce the certificates your trade needs? Gas Safe, NICEIC and electrical certification are the difference between generic job software and something you can actually run a trade on.
  5. Can you export your data if you leave? Job history, customer records and photos. Ask before you import three years of work.

What about the free options?

There is no serious free tier in this category. What exists instead is a stack of cheap tools that do one job each.

A sole trader can run on a free accounting tool for invoices, a phone calendar for the diary, and a shared folder for job photos. That works until the day you cannot find the photo of the consumer unit you replaced fourteen months ago. Job management software is not solving a paperwork problem. It is solving a recall problem.

The trigger to buy is usually the second person, not the first job.

The bottom line

For one van, £25 to £34 a month buys everything you need. For a team of five, compare on total monthly cost rather than per user headline, because the flat rate options win quickly.

And treat an unpublished price as information in itself. It tells you the sale is designed around a conversation, not around a comparison.

Common questions

How much does job management software cost for a UK trade business?

Between £25 and £45 per user per month for the options that publish a price. Checked on 27 July 2026, ServiceM8 is £25 a month flat for unlimited users, Powered Now £28 per user excluding VAT, Tradify £34 per user, and Joblogic £45 per user billed annually. Payaca starts at £299 a month excluding VAT on an annual commitment. Commusoft and simPRO do not publish pricing.

Which job management software is cheapest for a one van business?

ServiceM8 at £25 a month is the cheapest published option and it is flat rate rather than per user, so it stays at £25 as you add people. Powered Now at £28 per user excluding VAT is the next cheapest for a single user.

Is Tradify or ServiceM8 better value for a small team?

On price, ServiceM8. Tradify charges £34 per user per month while ServiceM8 charges £25 a month flat for unlimited users, so at two users Tradify costs £68 against ServiceM8 at £25, and at five users it is £170 against £25. Whether the extra features justify that depends on whether you need them.

Why do Commusoft and simPRO not publish prices?

Both require a sales conversation before quoting, because pricing depends on modules and headcount. Commusoft also runs 12 month contracts and quotes excluding VAT. The practical effect is that you cannot compare them against published options without going through a sales process first. Ask for the total first year cost in writing, including setup and training.

Do I need job management software as a sole trader?

Usually not on day one. A free accounting tool for invoices, a phone calendar and a shared photo folder covers a single van. The trigger to buy is normally the second person on the team, or the point where you need to find records of a job you did over a year ago.
