Most business owners have never seen what a search engine or an AI assistant actually reads when it looks them up. This check shows you, in about twenty seconds.
The Whito Visibility Check tells a UK business whether AI search can read it and trust it. Seventeen checks on what search engines and AI assistants actually see, scored out of 100 and grouped into Start, Build and Scale. Its job is to stop you spending too early: a low score means do not buy marketing yet, the fixes it lists are free, and nobody, including us, can pay to change a score.
Enter your website. We run the same structural checks behind Whito's research studies and show you the full result on this page. Free, no email needed.
What the check looks at
Seventeen checks, scored out of 100, grouped the way Whito organises all its advice: get the foundations right, then the structure, then the things that compound. Every check is deterministic, which means the same website always produces the same score. Nothing is a black box, and every point is traceable to a named check.
Start
35 points
Identity and trust. Can a person, or a machine, confirm you are real?
- Secure connection. Whether the site loads over HTTPS. An insecure site is a trust failure for people and engines alike.
- Companies House verification. Whether a registered company number appears on the site, so your existence can be confirmed against the public register.
- Phone number visible. Whether a UK phone number appears as text rather than buried in an image.
- UK address visible. Whether a postcode appears on the page. Location is one of the strongest signals for local recommendations.
- Clear page title. Whether the title says what you do and where.
Build
45 points
Structure. Can machines read what you do and where you do it?
- Structured data present. Whether the page carries JSON-LD, the machine-readable label on your business.
- Business schema. Whether that data declares an Organization or LocalBusiness, with name, address and contact details.
- Linked profiles. Whether your schema points at your other profiles, tying your identity together across the web.
- AI crawlers allowed. Whether robots.txt blocks GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended or CCBot. Blocking them while wanting AI visibility is the most common and most fixable mistake we see.
- llms.txt. Whether you publish a short plain-text file telling AI systems what your business is and which pages matter.
- Sitemap. Whether a sitemap exists at the usual addresses or is declared in robots.txt.
- Meta description. Whether there is a sensible one-sentence description of the page.
- Main heading. Whether the page has a single clear H1 stating its subject.
- FAQ schema. Whether real customer questions are marked up as FAQPage data. AI answers are built from question-shaped content.
Scale
20 points
Visibility signals. Is there anything for an engine to keep coming back for?
- Enough content to work with. How much readable text the page carries. Engines cannot recommend what they cannot read.
- Share preview tags. Whether Open Graph tags describe the page when it is shared or quoted.
- Signs of fresh content. Whether the site links to a blog, news or guides section. A site that never changes slowly disappears from answers.
Why these checks
They come out of Whito’s own published research. We have put the same question to ChatGPT, Google Gemini and Google AI Mode across nine industries and six UK cities, and recorded what the answers were actually built from. The pattern is consistent: engines lean on verification, on structured business data, on plain readable text, and on trusted third parties that vouch for a firm.
So the check measures the parts of that you control. You cannot make an engine name you. You can make sure that when it looks, it finds a real, verifiable, machine-readable business rather than a brochure it cannot parse.

What the score does not tell you
It does not tell you whether AI engines currently recommend your business. That depends on reviews, directories, awards and press coverage as well as your own site, and our research found engines frequently disagree with each other about the same question on the same day.
It is also a check of your homepage, not a full crawl of every page. It is a starting point that costs nothing, not a substitute for a proper look.
If you score 70 or more
A score of 70 or above earns the Whito AI Visibility badge, free, for your own website. It is not an image you download. It is served from here and shows your current score, so it stops saying you passed the moment your site stops passing. If you clear the line, the embed code appears with your result above.
Where to start
Most businesses only ever need the free check.
Whito Visibility Check. Free, instant
Seventeen automated checks on your homepage, scored out of 100. The full result appears on this page in about twenty seconds. No email address.
Start here. If it scores you under 40, do not spend money on marketing yet. Every failed check on that list can be fixed for nothing.
What money cannot buy: a higher score. The checks read your site; change the site and the score follows. Paying Whito changes nothing on this page.
Common questions
Is the Whito Visibility Check really free?
Yes. It runs in your browser, shows the full result on the page, and does not ask for your email address. There is no trial, no account and no card. Whito charges for one thing only, Whito Intelligence, research files built to order. Nothing else is for sale.
What does the score actually measure?
It measures whether your website is structurally readable by search engines and AI assistants. That means things like whether you publish a company number, whether your business is described in structured data, whether AI crawlers are allowed to read you at all, and whether there is enough plain text on the page to quote. It is a check of the foundations, not a prediction.
Does a high score mean AI will recommend my business?
No, and we will not claim otherwise. A high score means the things you control are in order. Whether an engine names you also depends on reviews, directories, awards and coverage you do not control. Our published research shows how varied those answers are: engines frequently disagree with each other about the same question in the same city.
Why does it ask for a company number?
It does not require one, it is optional. If your website publishes a registered company number, anyone including an AI assistant can confirm you are a real, active UK company. That is one of the strongest trust signals a business can add, and most never do.
What if my site scores badly?
Every failed check comes with a plain-English explanation of how to fix it, in priority order. Most of the common failures take minutes and cost nothing, such as adding your phone number as text or unblocking AI crawlers in your robots.txt file.
How often can I run it?
As often as you like, within reason. Results are cached for an hour per website, and checks from one connection are rate limited to stop the tool being scraped.
Do you store my website address?
The result is cached for an hour so repeat checks are fast, then it expires. We do not build a profile, we do not sell the data, and we do not pass it to anyone.
Three steps, in order. The first two are free and most people never need the third.
- Fix what the score tells you. Nearly all of it is free and takes minutes. Work down the list in the order it gives you.
- Get listed and checked against Companies House. Also free, and always will be.
