Medivet scores highest of the ten UK vet and pet care brands compared, at 6.6 out of 10 on the Whito leaderboard.

Opinion and analysis. Whito read every brand below by hand on 22 October 2026, using publicly visible activity only, against fixed anchors and the same ten UK searches. Each channel is scored 0 to 10, set out under How we scored, so a score describes what we could see on the day, not the quality of the veterinary care. Brands cannot pay to appear or to change a score. Where a figure is not published, we say so.

Many practices assume pet owners choose the vet round the corner. On this board, the brands that score best are the ones that let an owner book online or show a price before they call. Joii, Medivet, Vets Now, CVS and Animal Trust all score 10 on website.

Medivet scores 6.6, ahead of Joii Pet Care on 6.1 and PDSA on 5.9. Medivet ran about 400 Google ads and at least 31 Meta ads. Search is almost open: across 10 UK searches, from ‘vet consultation cost UK’ to ‘vets Leeds’, only four of the ten brands appeared, and none more than twice.

Linnaeus scores lowest at 2.3. Its site is aimed at vets and job seekers rather than pet owners, it ran no Google ads, and its Trustpilot profile shows 1.7 from 22 reviews.

What can your business learn?

Who’s leading? Medivet, with 6.6 out of 10 across seven channels.

Why are they leading? Its highest-scoring channels are Website (10/10) and Paid (10/10).

Where’s the opportunity? Email is the weakest channel on this board. The ten brands average 2.6 out of 10 on it, and 5 of them score 3 or less.

What the channels show

Online booking and a price lead

Five brands score 10 on website for online booking or a priced online service: Joii (consultations in its app), Medivet (nurse appointments online, a £130 overnight emergency fee), Vets Now (video consultations from £28), CVS (online appointment booking) and Animal Trust (a prices page and online booking). Pets at Home / Vets4Pets shows a £10 health check offer but takes appointment requests by form, and scores 7.

Search goes to directories and price guides

CVS appeared in 2 of 10 UK searches and Joii, Medivet and Vets Now in 1 each. The other six appeared in none. The cost searches went to insurers’ price guides, and the town searches to vet directories and the RCVS register. A practice page that answers the cost question for its own town competes on equal terms.

Charities reply, chains mostly do not

Blue Cross replies to 18 of its latest 20 Trustpilot reviews, Joii to 17 and PDSA to 16. Medivet, with 4.6 from 18,047, and Vets4Pets reply to none of their latest 20. Vets Now has the most reviews on the board, 25,970, and replies to 10.

The big groups are invisible to pet owners

IVC Evidensia and Linnaeus run hundreds of practices between them, but their own sites speak to vets and job seekers. Pet owners meet them under local practice names, so the group brand does little marketing work. They score 2.9 and 2.3, the bottom two on the board.

Key lessons for any vet practice

Let owners book online

All five brands that take bookings online or sell a priced online consultation score 10 on website. An online booking link on every page removes the phone call that many owners put off until the problem is worse.

Publish your common prices

Animal Trust has a prices page, Medivet states its overnight emergency fee and Vets Now its video consultation price. A clear price for a consultation, vaccinations and neutering answers the question the cost searches show owners are asking.

Reply to every review

Blue Cross, Joii and PDSA reply to most of their latest reviews and score 6 to 8 on reviews. Replying in your own words, especially to a worried or upset owner, shows the next client how you handle problems.

Use one name everywhere

Vets4Pets appears as both Vets for Pets and Vets4Pets, and Joii’s LinkedIn page sits under Vet-AI. Both lose a brand point. Use the same name on your sign, website, Google profile and social accounts.

Steal this playbook

Five moves from this leaderboard, ranked by return on effort.

  1. Reply to every review you have. Blue Cross replies to 18 of its latest 20; Medivet replies to none.
  2. Add online booking. All five brands that offer it score 10 on website.
  3. Publish a price for your most common visits. Animal Trust, Medivet and Vets Now show prices on the page.
  4. Write the cost guide for your town. The cost searches went to insurers’ price guides, not to vets.
  5. Collect emails with a reason to join. Four of the ten capture no email; Vets4Pets’ Pets Club offers a £10 health check to members.

How we scored

Who is on the board. Ten UK vet and pet care brands a pet owner is likely to meet: Pets at Home / Vets4Pets (national vet practice network within the Pets at Home group), PDSA (vet charity for pets in need), Medivet (national vet group, now Medivet & Partners), Joii Pet Care (online vet consultation service with an app), Vets Now (out-of-hours emergency vet provider), CVS Vets (UK vet group with a practice finder), IVC Evidensia (the UK arm of a large European vet group), Linnaeus (UK primary care and referral vet group), Blue Cross (pet charity with animal hospitals) and Animal Trust (not-for-profit vet practices). Chosen for relevance and size, not marketing strength.

This board was first published with scores relative to the other brands on it. On 22 October 2026 it was rescored on Whito’s fixed anchors and expanded to ten brands, so scores are not comparable with the earlier edition.

When we looked. All ten brands were read on 22 October 2026, with the ten searches below run once on that date. Meta Ad Library counts were read on 23 October 2026, after the library was unavailable on 22 October.

  • Social: which platforms the brand links to from its own site, and whether we could see recent posting and video.
  • Website: 2 for a brochure page, 4 with a contact route on mobile, 6 with a page per service and a one-step enquiry, 8 with prices or ranges and registration numbers shown, 10 with online booking or an instant priced quote.
  • Email: visible capture only, as we did not subscribe test inboxes for this edition. 2 for a bare newsletter form, up to 10 for a loyalty or app ecosystem with personal offers.
  • SEO: ten UK searches for this trade, run through a standard web search API (22 October 2026; not personalised, no location set beyond the town in the query); we counted how many returned the brand’s own site in the top ten results. 0 of 10 scores 2, 1 to 2 scores 4, 3 to 4 scores 6, 5 to 6 scores 8, 7 or more scores 10, plus 1 for a substantial advice library. The searches: emergency vet near me UK; vet consultation cost UK; dog vaccination cost UK; pet health plan vets; out of hours vet; vets London; vets Manchester; vets Birmingham; vets Leeds; vets Bristol.
  • Paid: the Google Ads Transparency Centre (UK, last 30 days, by domain) and the Meta Ad Library (UK, active ads whose text names the brand, counted by the advertiser page). 2 for nothing found in either, 4 for active in one with fewer than 10 ads, 6 for active in both or 10+ in one, 8 for active in both with 10+ in at least one, 10 for 50+ Google ads and 10+ Meta ads. Paid describes visible activity, not quality. A low paid score is not a fault.
  • Reviews: a fixed formula. Rating (4.7+ scores 4, 4.5 to 4.69 scores 3, 4.0 to 4.49 scores 2, 3.5 to 3.99 scores 1) plus volume (10,000+ scores 4, 1,000+ scores 3, 100+ scores 2, 20+ scores 1) plus replies to the latest 20 reviews (half or more scores 2, some scores 1).
  • Brand: five checks worth 2 each: the same name and logo everywhere, one clear positioning line, a distinctive asset used for years, three or more independent press mentions in 90 days, and named people or expertise on the site.

These anchors are fixed for this edition, so the ten scores can be read against each other. Boards published before October 2026 used scores relative to the other brands on the board, so compare across boards with care.

Common questions

Which vet brand scores highest on the Whito leaderboard?

Medivet scores highest at 6.6 out of 10, ahead of Joii Pet Care on 6.1. Medivet takes nurse appointments online, shows a £130 overnight emergency fee and ran about 400 Google ads and at least 31 Meta ads. Joii takes consultations through its app, holds 4.6 from 8,635 Trustpilot reviews with replies to 17 of the latest 20, and appeared in 1 of 10 UK searches.

Which vet brand scores lowest, and why?

Linnaeus scores 2.3. Its site speaks to vets and job seekers rather than pet owners, it captures no email, no Google or Meta ads were found, it did not appear in any of 10 UK searches and its Trustpilot profile shows 1.7 from 22 reviews.

How do these vet brands compare on reviews?

Ratings run from 1.7 for CVS Vets and Linnaeus to 4.6 for Medivet and Joii. Vets Now has the most reviews, 25,970, followed by Medivet on 18,047. Blue Cross replies to 18 of its latest 20, Joii to 17 and PDSA to 16, while Medivet and Vets4Pets reply to none.

Do vets publish their prices?

Some do. Animal Trust has a prices page, Medivet states a £130 overnight emergency consultation fee and Vets Now prices video consultations from £28. Most of the others show no prices on the homepage.

What can a local vet practice copy from these brands?

Add online booking, as the five website leaders do. Publish prices for common visits. Reply to every review. Write a cost guide for your town, since six of the ten brands appeared in none of 10 UK searches. Use one name everywhere.
