Whito sells UK research files, and one of the routes compared on this page is ours. We say where it fits and where it does not. There are no affiliate links in this article and no provider paid to be included. How we make money: how-we-make-money. How we review: review methodology.

Most people searching for a Statista alternative want one UK figure they can trust and use, without a year-long contract attached to it.

We read Statista’s UK pricing page on 1 October 2026, alongside the prices for Mintel, IBISWorld and our own Whito Data files. On 1 October 2026 the cheapest Statista plan with spreadsheet downloads cost £1,908 for the year before sales tax, and none of the three plans with a price on the page let you publish the charts.

The quick verdict

You need one UK figure, once: start free. ONS and the government’s Business Population Estimates give UK business counts at no cost, Companies House search is free, and the British Library’s Business & IP Centre lists Statista among the databases it gives free access to.

You need statistics on many topics, all year: Statista is built for that. Starter at £159 a month, billed annually, is the entry point for one person who needs spreadsheet downloads.

The figures are going into something you publish: price the Professional plan before you commit. Basic, Starter and Personal all showed publication rights as “Not included” in the plan table.

You need the rows behind one UK sector: which businesses get named, which match an active company, what the sector pays for marketing. That is what a Whito Data file holds. £1,280 once, PDF plus raw CSV, no VAT added. It is narrow, so check the list first.

Statista against the other paid routes

Entry prices for one person or one purchase, read the same morning:

IBISWorld single UK industry report£1,000One report as a PDF, 30+ pagesVAT treatment not stated on the page
Whito Data file£1,280One UK file: PDF plus the raw CSV it is built fromTotal payable. No VAT added
Statista Starter, one year£1,908One seat, premium statistics, XLS and PPT downloadsExcludes sales tax. Annual contract
Mintel single UK report£2,195One report, PDF download plus portal accessExcludes tax
Source: each provider’s own pricing page, read by Whito from a UK connection on 1 October 2026. Statista year = £159 a month x 12. Mintel price from two UK reports, both £2,195. IBISWorld price from its UK advertising agencies report.

These buy different things. Statista sells statistics across many countries and topics. Mintel and IBISWorld sell analyst-written reports on a market or an industry. A Whito file is the raw data behind one published UK study. Pick by the question you need answered first, then compare prices inside that group.

The trap in the Statista price

The contract renews at a price the page does not show

The footnote under the Starter and Personal prices read: “The account requires an annual contract and will renew after one year to the regular list price.” The list price itself was not on the page. Ask for it in writing before you sign, or put a reminder in the diary eleven months out.

Downloads come without publication rights

Starter and Personal both include XLS and PPT downloads. Both showed publication rights as not included. If the chart is going into a report, a website or anything else you put out under your name, check the terms for your use before you build it in.

Check the source line on UK charts

When a Statista chart on a UK topic names a UK public body such as ONS as its source, open that body’s release. You get the figure, its date and its method for nothing, and you can cite the primary source directly.

The free routes, and where they stop

ONS. UK Business: Activity, Size and Location counts UK enterprises registered for VAT or PAYE by industry, region, legal structure and employment size. The 2026 edition came out on 24 September 2026. It gives counts.

The government’s Business Population Estimates. These estimate the total number of private sector businesses in the UK, with employment and turnover. On 1 October 2026 the newest edition listed was the 2025 one, published 2 October 2025 and listed as an official statistic in development. Check its reference date before you quote it.

Companies House search. Free to search for registered company information, including registered office address, filing history, accounts and officers. Companies House says it does not check the accuracy of the information filed, so treat it as a record of filings.

The British Library Business & IP Centre. Its market information page lists Mintel, IBISWorld, Statista, eMarketer, Frost & Sullivan and Passport (Euromonitor) among the databases it gives free access to. Access may be on site only. The centre in Bristol, for example, offers Mintel only on its own computers at Central Library, across five areas (beauty and personal care, drink, food, foodservice and leisure), and you cannot print or download from it. Ask your nearest centre what it holds before you travel.

Whito’s free studies. Each Whito Data file sits behind a free study you can read in full, with the method and the limits, before you spend anything. Our UK business statistics page pulls the official counts into one place with a source on each figure.

Where a Whito Data file fits, and where it does not

A Whito Data file is the working behind one of our free studies. You read the finding first, for nothing. The file is every row underneath it: each business an AI engine named, its Companies House or regulator outcome, the collection date, or for our cost work the published price and its source.

It fits if you sell to, insure, franchise, fund or represent businesses in one UK sector and need names and rows you can sort, filter and join to your own data. Eight files are on sale at £1,280 each, emailed within one working day. Other sectors are built to order: we reply in writing with a fixed scope and price, and there is nothing to pay until you order.

It does not fit if you need consumer survey data, global market sizes, forecasts, or coverage outside the UK. A Whito file holds none of those. Each file covers one scope, so check the list on the page before you buy.

Licence terms, from the page: one company, shared internally as widely as you like, not for resale or republication. The page’s refund promise: if the report is not what the page says it is, tell us and we refund you. The free electricians sample is one complete town from a real report.

The takeaway: if you need one UK number, the primary source is usually free. Pay Statista when you need breadth all year, and pay for a file when you need the rows.

Questions

How much does Statista cost in the UK?

On 1 October 2026 Statista’s UK pricing page showed Basic free, Starter at £159 a month billed annually (£1,908 a year), Personal at £519 a month billed annually (£6,228 a year), and Professional on request. Prices exclude sales tax and the paid plans are annual contracts that renew at the regular list price.

Is there a free alternative to Statista for UK data?

Yes, for most official UK figures. ONS, the government’s Business Population Estimates and Companies House search are free. The British Library Business & IP Centre also lists Statista among the databases it gives free access to. Ask the centre how access works before you go.

Can I publish Statista charts on the Starter plan?

On 1 October 2026 the Statista pricing page showed publication rights as not included on Basic, Starter and Personal, and included on Professional, which is priced on request.

Is a Whito Data file a replacement for Statista?

Only for a narrow job. A Whito file is the raw data behind one UK study, such as which businesses AI engines name in a sector and whether each matches an active company. It costs £1,280 once with no VAT added. It holds no consumer surveys, forecasts or non-UK data.
