Most UK small businesses pay between £3,000 and £6,000 for a professionally built website, with a five-page freelancer brochure site at £1,500 to £3,000 and hidden costs adding 30 to 50% on top, according to Whito’s May 2026 pricing data.

A tree surgery site has to carry more proof than most trade sites, because the jobs are bigger, the danger is real and the trade is open to anyone. The good news: proof is text and photos, and both are cheap. Here is the market and the spec.

The spec worth paying for

A team page with real names and translated tickets. Insurance as a number. A page per job type with process photos and dated price bands. The TPO and overhanging-branches explainers. ARB approval linked to the AA’s public directory if held. Company number in the footer. Every element is text and photographs: a £1,500 build carries it as well as a £6,000 one, and a self-run WordPress site at £130 to £160 a year carries it too if you will do the writing. On DIY builders, our exit test found the main AI site builders allow no clean export, so WordPress remains the portable route.

What the build must not bury

Speed and readability. In our July 2026 audit, 92% of independent UK business sites gave AI crawlers no policy and almost none used correct structured data, and heavy galleries are the classic tree-surgery site mistake: fifty unlabelled photos in a slider that neither customers nor engines can read. Ten captioned sets beat them all. Run the free Visibility Check before paying anyone, and again after.

Common questions

How much should a tree surgeon pay for a website?

Published 2026 rates run £1,500 to £3,000 for a freelancer brochure site and £3,000 to £6,000 professionally built, per Whito’s May 2026 research. The proof-first spec, tickets, insurance, bands, permission pages, fits any tier including self-run WordPress at about £150 a year.

What should a tree surgery website include?

Named team with translated certificates, insurance as a number, price bands per job type, process photos with captions, TPO and overhanging-branch explainers, and a company number. Proof and answers, not sliders.

Do photo galleries help tree surgeon websites?

Captioned photo sets showing the process and the finished garden help. Unlabelled fifty-image sliders hurt: they slow the site and say nothing engines or customers can use.
