Pest control demand does not need creating. Someone with rats does not need persuading, they need finding you, believing you, and ringing you. All three are free to fix, and fixing them beats any budget spent while they are broken.
Be findable at 7am
The wasp-by-the-window search happens at dawn and lands on Google. In Whito’s August 2026 study, the business’s own website was cited in 90% of AI Mode answers and Google profiles in 81%. A complete profile, real name, true hours, service areas, photos of actual work, plus a page per pest on your own site, is the free version of the visibility the directories sell.
Be believable in one scroll
The customer’s fear is the cowboy. BPCA or NPTA membership with the number, technician qualifications, CRRU training, insurance level, company number, all in text. Thirty percent of tradespeople we checked could not be verified at Companies House, per our study; being checkable in one scroll is a free competitive weapon.
Publish prices next to the council’s
Your local council either publishes a fee table or has quietly stopped offering pest control. Either way, that fact plus your own dated from-prices makes an honest, useful page: what the council charges, how long the wait is, what you charge, what you include. Firms fear this page. Customers bookmark it.
Reviews that name the pest
Ask after the follow-up visit, once the problem is gone, and ask for the pest, the area and the response time. “Rats sorted in three visits in Carlton, there next morning” is the review that wins the next rat job. Never incentivise: fake and incentivised reviews are banned in the UK with severe fines, per the rules we summarised.
Answer, or lose silently
Urgent trades are won on the phone. A missed-call text-back, on a job, will call back within the hour, holds the customer who would otherwise work down the list. It is the cheapest conversion tool in the trade.
Common questions
What free marketing works for a pest control company?
A complete Google Business Profile, a page per pest, membership and training proof in text, published from-prices framed against the local council’s fee table, reviews naming the pest and response time, and a missed-call text-back. All free.
Should pest control firms publish prices?
Yes, because the comparison already exists: many councils publish exact pest fees. A dated from-price with what it includes wins the comparison shopper that price silence loses.
How should pest controllers ask for reviews?
After the follow-up visit, by text, asking the customer to name the pest, area and how fast you attended. Specific reviews are what engines and frightened customers read.
