A locksmith’s software stack is small: something that gets you to jobs, something that invoices them, and something that keeps HMRC content. This list is by stage, not by commission. No link pays Whito anything, and a tool appears only if its UK pricing page published a pound figure we could read on 4 September 2026. Prices exclude VAT unless stated.

Sole trader

Phone, calendar, card reader, and accounts software when HMRC admin starts costing evenings: FreeAgent at £19 a month, free with a NatWest, RBS, Ulster Bank or Mettle business account, or Xero’s entry Ignite plan at £18. The one emergency-trade extra worth setting up on day one is free: a missed-call auto-text, which most UK networks and phones support natively, because in this trade an unanswered call is a lost job.

Van plus apprentice

ToolPublished UK priceNotes
Powered Now£28 to £40 per user a monthbuilt for UK trades, read 4 Sep 2026
Tradify£34 to £44 per user a monthjobs, quotes, invoicing, 14 day trial
Xerofrom £18 a monthentry accounting, read 4 Sep 2026

Both job platforms handle the planned side of the trade, quotes for upgrades, landlord work, invoicing on the doorstep. Jobber publishes prices in US dollars only, so we leave it out instead of guessing a conversion. On call tracking, an honest note: no major vendor published a UK price in pounds that we could verify on the day, so we name no tool and no figure. A second phone number and your network’s call log cover most of what a sole trader needs measured.

Multi-van

Scheduling across vans is the point at which Tradify’s Plus tier at £44 per user or Powered Now’s Premium at £40 earn their keep, and accounting moves up only when payroll arrives, Xero Grow at £39. Keep the stack at one job tool and one accounts tool: only 9 of 27 vendors published a genuine pound price when we read every live pricing page in August 2026, and overlap is where software budgets quietly rot.

Common questions

What software does a UK locksmith need?

A job tool and an accounts tool. Of the vendors publishing UK prices, Powered Now runs £28 to £40 per user a month and Tradify £34 to £44, with Xero from £18 and FreeAgent at £19 for accounts, free with certain bank accounts. All read 4 September 2026.

What is the best call tracking for locksmiths?

No major call tracking vendor published a verifiable UK price in pounds when Whito checked on 4 September 2026, so we name none. A dedicated second number and your phone network’s own call log give a sole trader most of the signal free.

Does Whito earn commission on these tools?

No. Nothing here is an affiliate link and no vendor has paid to appear. Tools are listed only when a UK price in pounds was readable on the vendor’s own page on the date shown.
