For years there was a hole in the middle of local marketing. Your Google Business Profile was often your busiest shopfront, and you could not see inside it.

Someone found you on Google, tapped call, and rang you. Someone tapped directions and drove over. Someone booked a table. None of it showed up in your analytics. Your website reports told you about clicks. The calls, the directions, the bookings, the actual money, were invisible.

That has now changed.

What happened

In June 2026 Google started connecting Google Business Profile directly to Google Analytics 4. It is rolling out account by account.

Once linked, GA4 shows the actions people take on your listing: phone calls from the call button, direction requests, bookings, messages, and menu views. Not just website clicks. The whole picture.

There are no tags to add and no code to touch. You link it inside GA4 under Admin, then Product links, then Google Business Profile. You need an admin role on the analytics side and an owner or manager role on the profile, or the link will not complete.

“You are not adding a channel. You are finally seeing one you already had. Structure before scale.”

Why it matters

Most local businesses have been flying blind on their most important channel.

Think about where your customers actually come from. For a plumber, a dentist, a cafe, a garage, the Google listing often does more than the website ever does. People search, they see you, they call. That moment was never measured. So it never got improved.

When you cannot measure something, you cannot manage it. You end up pouring money into paid ads because ads come with a dashboard, while the free channel that quietly drives half your enquiries gets ignored because it was a black box.

This closes the box. For free.

The mistake most businesses will make

They will read this, nod, and do nothing.

Or worse, they will treat it as a new toy to obsess over rather than a foundation to fix. They will stare at direction requests going up and down and read meaning into noise.

Here is the Whito view. This is not a growth tactic. It is a structure fix. It belongs in the Build stage, not Scale. You are not adding a channel. You are finally seeing one you already had.

What to do about it

Step 1. Check you have a Google Business Profile you actually control, and a GA4 property for your site. If either is missing, that is the real job this week, not the integration.

Step 2. Link them. Admin, Product links, Google Business Profile. Sort out the permissions if the link stalls.

Step 3. Decide what one number matters. For most local businesses it is calls or bookings, not clicks. Watch that number over weeks, not hours. Note what you changed when it moved.

That is it. No new budget. No agency. No clever funnel.

The takeaway

The businesses that win here will not be the ones with the fanciest reports. They will be the ones who finally look at what their free listing already does, and act on it.

Measure the channel you already own before you pay for a new one. That is the whole lesson.
