HIPPO scores highest of the ten UK skip hire and waste removal brands compared, at 7.0 out of 10 on the Whito leaderboard.
Opinion and analysis. Whito read every brand below by hand on 22 October 2026, using publicly visible activity only, against fixed anchors and ten UK searches. Each channel is scored 0 to 10, set out under How we scored, so a score describes what we could see on the day, not the quality of the service. Brands cannot pay to appear or to change a score. Where a figure is not published, we say so.
Waste removal is a licence trade, so most firms assume the waste carrier licence does the selling. On this board the leaders are the ones who show a price and book online. HIPPO scores 7.0, ahead of Fantastic Services on 6.4 and LoveJunk on 5.7, and it is the only brand with a top reviews score: 4.8 from 23,152 Trustpilot reviews, with replies to 14 of the latest 20.
And there is a second lesson sitting in plain sight. HIPPO invented the skip bag category and named it, which means the name works for everyone who sells or serves the bag. Call it the category-name tax: when your product name becomes the search term, you pay for the privilege in other businesses taking the demand your brand created. On 22 October 2026, a search for ‘hippo bag collection’ returned DIY retailers selling the bags, not HIPPO.
Business Waste scores lowest at 3.7. It links one social platform, shows no prices, captures no email and appeared in none of 10 UK searches, despite 4.9 from 3,349 Trustpilot reviews.

Average is the simple mean of the seven channel scores, rounded to one decimal place. Brands on the same average share a rank and are listed A to Z. All ten brands read 22 October 2026. The Meta Ad Library could not be read on 22 October 2026, so Paid reflects Google ads only and is capped at 6. We will add Meta counts and update the scores when it can be read.
Company verdicts
HIPPO, 7.0
HIPPO scores 7.0, the highest of the ten. Reviews score 10, the only top reviews score here, from 4.8 on 23,152 Trustpilot reviews with replies to 14 of the latest 20. SEO scores 7, the best here: hippowaste.co.uk appeared for skip hire in Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds and Bristol, and a blog adds a point. Its website scores 10 for online booking with a basket and checkout. Brand scores 6, also the best here, for one name, a clear line and the HIPPO bag it has sold for over 20 years. Email scores 4 for a customer login.
Fantastic Services, 6.4
Fantastic Services scores 6.4. Email scores 7, the highest here, for a subscribe offer and the Fantastic Club membership. Its website scores 10 for online booking, with a waste collection and removal service. SEO scores 5: its cost guide appeared for ‘rubbish removal cost UK’. Reviews score 7 from 4.6 on 54,139 Trustpilot reviews, the most on the board, held back by no replies on the latest 20. It is a multi-trade home services platform, so waste removal is one service among many.
LoveJunk, 5.7
LoveJunk scores 5.7. Its website scores 10 for instant prices from waste collectors on the homepage, such as £82 and £104. SEO scores 5: lovejunk.com appeared for ‘rubbish removal cost UK’ and ‘skip hire London’, and guides add a point. Reviews score 7 from 4.9 on 1,806 Trustpilot reviews, the joint highest rating here, with no replies on the latest 20. Paid scores 6 with 43 Google ads.
Clearabee, 5.3
Clearabee scores 5.3. Its website scores 10 for prices on the homepage, from £99.99, and online booking. Email scores 0, with no newsletter, account or app confirmed, and clearabee.co.uk appeared in none of 10 UK searches.
Grundon, 4.7
Grundon scores 4.7, level with Junk Hunters. Its website scores 10 for an instant quote for commercial waste. Paid scores 6 with 69 Google ads. Reviews score 1: Trustpilot shows 2.8 from 14 reviews. SEO scores 2, as grundon.com appeared in none of 10 UK searches. Its customers are businesses rather than households.
Junk Hunters, 4.7
Junk Hunters scores 4.7, level with Grundon. Email scores 6 for its app, with £25 off app bookings. Reviews score 6 from 4.9 on 997 Trustpilot reviews, the joint highest rating here, held back by no replies on the latest 20. Its website scores 6 for a quote request and same-day clearance, with no prices shown. Brand scores 2 for a consistent name only.
Veolia, 4.6
Veolia scores 4.6. Reviews score 6 from 3.9 on 3,720 Trustpilot reviews, with replies to 18 of the latest 20. Paid scores 6 with 79 Google ads. Brand scores 4 for the line ‘Waste. It’s precious.’ veolia.co.uk appeared in none of 10 UK searches, and its website shows no prices.
AnyJunk, 4.4
AnyJunk scores 4.4. Reviews score 8 from 4.7 on 7,222 Trustpilot reviews, with a reply to 1 of the latest 20. SEO scores 5: its skip hire price articles appeared for ‘skip hire cost UK’, and it appeared for ‘rubbish removal service UK’. Social scores 2 for LinkedIn only, email 0, and its homepage shows no prices.
Biffa, 4.1
Biffa scores 4.1. Reviews score 5 from 3.4 on 8,112 Trustpilot reviews, though it replies to 19 of the latest 20, the best reply habit here. Social scores 6 for four platforms. Its website scores 6 for business service pages and a quote request, email 0, and biffa.co.uk appeared in none of 10 UK searches. Biffa is a large commercial waste company, which its homepage leads with.
Business Waste, 3.7
Business Waste scores 3.7, the lowest of the ten. Reviews score 7 from 4.9 on 3,349 Trustpilot reviews, the joint highest rating here, with no replies on the latest 20. The rest is thin: LinkedIn only, no prices, no email capture, 3 Google ads and no appearance in any of 10 UK searches.
What the channels show
The category-name tax is real
HIPPO’s reward for inventing the skip bag is that the name now belongs to the category. When this board was first published, LoveJunk, Clearabee and AnyJunk all ranked on HIPPO’s brand term with collection offers of their own. On 22 October 2026, the top results for ‘hippo bag collection’ were DIY retailers selling the bags. Owning the name of the category earns the demand and then invites everyone else to serve it. The defence is what HIPPO is doing: a deep review moat and city pages that rank.
Price transparency splits the market
HIPPO, Clearabee, LoveJunk, Fantastic Services and Grundon let you book or get a price online and score 10 for website. The rest ask for a quote first. In a trade where nobody knows whether a skip costs £200 or £400, a price on the page is the conversion.
Reviews carry the trust burden of a licence trade
Clearabee holds 38,911 Trustpilot reviews, HIPPO 23,152 and AnyJunk 7,222. Biffa replies to 19 of its latest 20, Veolia to 18 and HIPPO to 14; five of the ten reply to none.
Email is the sector’s empty channel
Four of the ten capture no email at all. Fantastic Services scores 7 with a members’ club and Junk Hunters 6 with an app. Waste comes back with every clear-out and every renovation, so a reminder list is the cheapest repeat booking there is.
Key lessons for any skip hire or waste business
Show a price before they ask
Clearabee shows from £99.99 on its homepage and LoveJunk shows collector prices. A “from” price for a skip or a van load answers the first question.
Make the review request part of the job
HIPPO has 23,152 reviews and replies to most recent ones. Ask at collection, and reply to every review, including the unhappy ones.
Publish what you can and cannot take
A plain list of accepted and refused waste saves a wasted call and shows you know the rules.
Prove where the waste goes
HIPPO references its waste carrier licence on the site. Show your licence number and say where the waste goes. It is the proof a licence trade runs on.
If you name the category, defend the name
HIPPO’s own name now sends searchers to retailers. If your product name becomes the search term, build the page that answers that search before someone else does.
Steal this playbook
Five moves from this leaderboard, ranked by return on effort.
- Reply to your latest 20 reviews. Five of the ten reply to none.
- Put a starting price on the homepage. Five of the ten book or price online; the other five ask for a quote first.
- Write one page per town you serve. HIPPO appeared for four cities that way.
- Collect an email at every collection. Four of the ten capture none.
- Show your waste carrier licence. It is the one credential every customer can check.
The evidence behind the scores

How we scored
Who is on the board. Ten UK skip hire and waste removal brands a household or business is likely to meet when clearing rubbish: HIPPO (inventor of the skip bag, rubbish removal nationwide), Clearabee (in-house rubbish removal and skip bag operator), AnyJunk (on-demand bulky waste collection), LoveJunk (marketplace for waste collectors), Biffa (large UK waste management company), Fantastic Services (home services platform with waste removal), Veolia (waste, water and energy group), Junk Hunters (London waste clearance company), Grundon (commercial waste management company) and Business Waste (national commercial waste collection service). Chosen for relevance and size, not marketing strength.
When we looked. All ten brands were read on 22 October 2026, against the fixed anchors below, with the ten searches run on the same day. This board was first published with scores relative to the other brands on it. On 22 October 2026 it was rescored on Whito’s fixed anchors and expanded to ten brands, so scores are not comparable with the earlier edition. The Meta Ad Library could not be read on 22 October 2026, so Paid reflects Google ads only and is capped at 6. We will add Meta counts and update the scores when it can be read.
- Social: which platforms the brand links to from its own site, and whether we could see recent posting and video.
- Website: 2 for a brochure page, 4 with a contact route on mobile, 6 with a page per service and a one-step enquiry, 8 with prices or ranges and registration numbers shown, 10 with online booking, an online checkout or an instant priced quote.
- Email: visible capture only, as we did not subscribe test inboxes for this edition. 2 for a bare newsletter form, 4 for a customer account, 6 for an app, 7 for a newsletter plus an app, up to 10 for a loyalty or app ecosystem with personal offers.
- SEO: ten UK searches for this sector, run through a standard web search API (22 October 2026; not personalised, no location set beyond the town in the query); we counted how many returned the brand’s own site in the top ten results. 0 of 10 scores 2, 1 to 2 scores 4, 3 to 4 scores 6, 5 to 6 scores 8, 7 or more scores 10, plus 1 for a substantial advice library. The searches: skip hire near me UK; skip hire cost UK; rubbish removal cost UK; rubbish removal service UK; hippo bag collection; skip hire London; skip hire Manchester; skip hire Birmingham; skip hire Leeds; skip hire Bristol.
- Paid: the Google Ads Transparency Centre (UK, last 30 days, by domain) and the Meta Ad Library (UK, active ads, counted by the advertiser page). 2 for nothing found in either, 4 for active in one with fewer than 10 ads, 6 for active in both or 10+ in one, 8 for active in both with 10+ in at least one, 10 for 50+ Google ads and 10+ Meta ads. On 22 October 2026 the Meta Ad Library returned no results for any search, so paid scores on this board rest on Google alone and cannot exceed 6. Paid describes visible activity, not quality. A low paid score is not a fault.
- Reviews: a fixed formula. Rating (4.7+ scores 4, 4.5 to 4.69 scores 3, 4.0 to 4.49 scores 2, 3.5 to 3.99 scores 1) plus volume (10,000+ scores 4, 1,000+ scores 3, 100+ scores 2, 20+ scores 1) plus replies to the latest 20 reviews (half or more scores 2, some scores 1). Where Trustpilot sends a brand’s address to a parent company profile, we used that profile and say so.
- Brand: five checks worth 2 each: the same name and logo everywhere, one clear positioning line, a distinctive asset used for years, three or more independent press mentions in 90 days, and named people or expertise on the site. We award only what we could verify on the day.
These anchors are fixed for this edition, so the ten scores can be read against each other. Boards published before October 2026 used scores relative to the other brands on the board, so compare across boards with care.
Common questions
Which UK waste removal brand has the best marketing in 2026?
HIPPO, on this board, at 7.0 out of 10, ahead of Fantastic Services on 6.4 and LoveJunk on 5.7. It books online with a checkout, holds 4.8 from 23,152 Trustpilot reviews with replies to 14 of the latest 20, and appeared in 4 of 10 UK searches.
Why does Biffa score low when it is one of the biggest companies?
Biffa scores 4.1. Its homepage leads with business waste, shows no prices, captures no email and appeared in none of 10 UK searches. Its Trustpilot rating is 3.4 from 8,112 reviews, though it replies to 19 of the latest 20. Size is not marketing.
What is the category-name tax?
Our term for what happens when a company’s product name becomes the generic search term. HIPPO invented the skip bag, so the name now works for everyone who sells or serves the bag. On 22 October 2026, a search for ‘hippo bag collection’ returned DIY retailers selling HIPPO bags, not HIPPO itself.
Which brand scores lowest, and why?
Business Waste scores 3.7. It links only LinkedIn, shows no prices, captures no email, ran 3 Google ads and appeared in none of 10 UK searches. Its reviews are strong: 4.9 from 3,349 Trustpilot reviews.
What can a local skip or clearance firm copy from these brands?
Show a starting price, as Clearabee does from £99.99. Reply to every review, as Biffa and Veolia do. Build a page for each town you serve, as HIPPO does for four cities. And show your waste carrier licence, the one credential a customer can check.
