Superdrug scores highest of the ten UK pharmacy and health retail brands compared, at 6.7 out of 10 on the Whito leaderboard.
Opinion and analysis. Whito read every brand below by hand on 22 October 2026, using publicly visible activity only, against fixed anchors and ten UK searches. Each channel is scored 0 to 10, set out under How we scored, so a score describes what we could see on the day, not the quality of the pharmacy care. Brands cannot pay to appear or to change a score. Where a figure is not published, we say so. Nothing here is health advice.
Pharmacy marketing looks like a contest of size. On this board it is a contest of trust signals: nine of the ten sell or book online, so the difference comes from reviews, loyalty and email. Superdrug scores 6.7, ahead of Chemist4U on 6.4, with Pharmacy2U and Holland & Barrett level on 6.1.
Superdrug holds 4.9 from 157,809 Trustpilot reviews and replies to 11 of its latest 20. Search is almost empty ground: across 10 UK searches only Superdrug appeared, once. Directories, NHS pages and publishers took the rest.
Day Lewis scores lowest at 3.9, with 2.5 from 397 Trustpilot reviews, no Google ads found and no online checkout confirmed. Boots, the largest name here, scores 5.6, held back by no social links on its homepage and no appearance in any of 10 UK searches.

Average is the simple mean of the seven channel scores, rounded to one decimal place. Brands on the same average share a rank and are listed A to Z. All ten brands read 22 October 2026. The Meta Ad Library could not be read on 22 October 2026, so Paid reflects Google ads only and is capped at 6. We will add Meta counts and update the scores when it can be read.

What the channels show
Loyalty data is the real email programme
Boots and Holland & Barrett score 8 on email, pairing a newsletter with an app and a loyalty or points scheme. Superdrug scores 7 with its app and Health & Beautycard. The brands with only a log-in score 4.
Review volume is a moat, review score is a signal
Pharmacy2U has 1,042,721 Trustpilot reviews, Boots 235,000 and Superdrug 157,809. Superdrug’s 4.9 and Oxford Online Pharmacy’s replies to all of its latest 20 earn the two top review scores. Pharmacy2U replies to none of its latest 20.
Search goes to directories and the NHS
Across 10 UK searches, only Superdrug appeared, once. Local pharmacy searches went to directories, NHS and university pages, and the online pharmacy searches went to publishers and smaller pharmacies.
Regulation shapes the creative
Pharmacy2U, Well, Chemist4U, Rowlands, Oxford Online Pharmacy and LloydsPharmacy Online Doctor all reference their GPhC registration. Prescription medicines cannot be advertised to the public, so the brands lead with services, delivery and offers instead.
Key lessons for any pharmacy or health retail business
Build the list before the campaign
The email leaders own the customer relationship through a card, an app or an account. A local pharmacy can start with a sign-up at the counter and a reminder when a flu jab or repeat prescription is due.
Ask for the review at the moment of relief
Oxford Online Pharmacy and Boots reply to all of their latest 20 reviews. Ask after a consultation or a delivery, and reply to each one.
Answer health questions in public
No pharmacy here appeared for the online doctor cost search. A plain page on what a consultation or service costs at your pharmacy is open ground.
Publish your services, not just your address
Rowlands lets people book NHS services online. List every service you offer, with a booking link, on its own page.
Keep your numbers straight
Show your GPhC registration where people can check it, as six of the ten do.
Steal this playbook
Five moves from this leaderboard, ranked by return on effort.
- Reply to your latest 20 reviews. Boots and Oxford Online Pharmacy answer all 20; Pharmacy2U and Day Lewis answer none.
- Collect an email at the counter. The top email scores all pair a list with an app or a card.
- Put every service online with a booking link. Nine of the ten sell or book online.
- Write the cost page. No pharmacy here appeared for the consultation or delivery cost searches except Superdrug’s FAQ.
- Show your GPhC registration. It is the one check a patient can make.
The evidence behind the scores

How we scored
Who is on the board. Ten UK pharmacy and health retail brands a customer is likely to meet when buying medicines, health products or prescriptions: Boots (the largest UK pharmacy chain), Superdrug (health and beauty chain with pharmacies and an online doctor), Pharmacy2U (online NHS pharmacy), Holland & Barrett (health and wellness retailer), Well Pharmacy (community pharmacy chain), Chemist4U (online pharmacy), LloydsPharmacy Online Doctor (online doctor and pharmacy service), Oxford Online Pharmacy (online pharmacy), Rowlands Pharmacy (community pharmacy chain) and Day Lewis (independent community pharmacy chain). Chosen for relevance and size, not marketing strength.
When we looked. All ten brands were read on 22 October 2026, against the fixed anchors below, with the ten searches run on the same day. This board was first published with scores relative to the other brands on it. On 22 October 2026 it was rescored on Whito’s fixed anchors and expanded to ten brands, so scores are not comparable with the earlier edition. The Meta Ad Library could not be read on 22 October 2026, so Paid reflects Google ads only and is capped at 6. We will add Meta counts and update the scores when it can be read.
- Social: which platforms the brand links to from its own site, and whether we could see recent posting and video.
- Website: 2 for a brochure page, 4 with a contact route on mobile, 6 with a page per service and a one-step enquiry, 8 with prices or ranges and registration numbers shown, 10 with online booking, an online checkout or an instant priced quote.
- Email: visible capture only, as we did not subscribe test inboxes for this edition. 2 for a bare newsletter form, 4 for a customer account, 6 for an app, 7 for a newsletter plus an app, up to 10 for a loyalty or app ecosystem with personal offers.
- SEO: ten UK searches for this sector, run through a standard web search API (22 October 2026; not personalised, no location set beyond the town in the query); we counted how many returned the brand’s own site in the top ten results. 0 of 10 scores 2, 1 to 2 scores 4, 3 to 4 scores 6, 5 to 6 scores 8, 7 or more scores 10, plus 1 for a substantial advice library. The searches: pharmacy near me open now UK; prescription delivery cost UK; online doctor consultation cost UK; online pharmacy UK; repeat prescription online UK; pharmacy London; pharmacy Manchester; pharmacy Birmingham; pharmacy Leeds; pharmacy Bristol.
- Paid: the Google Ads Transparency Centre (UK, last 30 days, by domain) and the Meta Ad Library (UK, active ads, counted by the advertiser page). 2 for nothing found in either, 4 for active in one with fewer than 10 ads, 6 for active in both or 10+ in one, 8 for active in both with 10+ in at least one, 10 for 50+ Google ads and 10+ Meta ads. On 22 October 2026 the Meta Ad Library returned no results for any search, so paid scores on this board rest on Google alone and cannot exceed 6. Paid describes visible activity, not quality. A low paid score is not a fault.
- Reviews: a fixed formula. Rating (4.7+ scores 4, 4.5 to 4.69 scores 3, 4.0 to 4.49 scores 2, 3.5 to 3.99 scores 1) plus volume (10,000+ scores 4, 1,000+ scores 3, 100+ scores 2, 20+ scores 1) plus replies to the latest 20 reviews (half or more scores 2, some scores 1). Where Trustpilot sends a brand’s address to a parent company profile, we used that profile and say so.
- Brand: five checks worth 2 each: the same name and logo everywhere, one clear positioning line, a distinctive asset used for years, three or more independent press mentions in 90 days, and named people or expertise on the site. We award only what we could verify on the day.
These anchors are fixed for this edition, so the ten scores can be read against each other. Boards published before October 2026 used scores relative to the other brands on the board, so compare across boards with care.

What can a local pharmacy copy from these brands?
Collect emails at the counter and send a reminder when a service is due. Reply to every review. Put each service online with a booking link, as Rowlands does. And show your GPhC registration where patients can check it.
