Most plumbers do not need a beautiful website. They need a phone number that gets tapped at 6:47am when a pipe has let go.

Once you accept that, the question of what to spend gets much easier to answer.

New to all this? Start with our full guide to how to start a website for your UK business, then come back here for the plumber specifics.

The mistake most plumbers make

They buy a ten page brochure site. About us, our values, meet the team, a blog nobody will write for.

Then they wonder why it brings in nothing.

Here is the problem. Most people looking for a plumber are on their phone, mildly panicking, and comparing whoever Google shows them first. They will spend about eight seconds on your site. They are not reading your values. They are looking for three things: are you local, are you legit, and how do I call you right now.

A website that answers those three questions in eight seconds beats a £5,000 site that answers them on page four.

What a plumber website costs in 2026

There are three honest routes. Real UK prices, not agency brochure prices.

Route one: build it yourself. A one page site on Wix from around £9 a month, or Squarespace from around £12 a month billed annually. If you are comfortable with slightly more setup, WordPress hosting from Hostinger starts near £3 a month on the first term, though expect the renewal price to roughly triple. A .co.uk domain is £7 to £15 a year and often free in year one. Realistic year one total: £120 to £250.

Route two: pay a freelancer. A straightforward four or five page trade site from a UK freelancer runs £800 to £3,000, with most landing between £1,200 and £2,000. Budget another £100 to £300 a year for hosting, domain and small updates. Get the login details in your name. Always.

Route three: an agency. £2,500 to £10,000 for a standard build. For a plumbing firm at the Start stage, this is almost never the right spend. An agency site does not make the phone ring any harder than a good freelancer site.

For comparison, a typical directory membership costs £70 to £150 a month before you have won a single job. That is £840 to £1,800 a year, every year, renting space on someone else’s platform. A website is a one off cost for something you own.

The five things your site must do

Make the number impossible to miss. Top of every page, set up as click to call. On a phone, your number is the site.

Say where you work in the first line. “Emergency plumber in Stockport and south Manchester” beats “Quality plumbing solutions” in every search Google ever runs.

Show your Gas Safe number if you do heating work. Written out, not just the logo. People can check the register, and the ones spending £2,000 to £4,500 on a boiler increasingly do.

Put reviews next to the phone number. Three real Google reviews near the button do more than any paragraph you could write about yourself.

Show your face or your van. One real photo. You are asking strangers to let you into their house. Stock photos of smiling models in overalls have the opposite effect to the one intended.

What to skip at the Start stage

No blog. No chatbot. No video background. No “SEO package” at £300 a month before the site has ten pages worth optimising. Structure before scale. Get the one page that converts, then earn the right to add more.

The takeaway

One boiler installation pays for the best website on this list. Most plumbers should spend £150 or £1,500, and almost none should spend £5,000. The price matters less than the test: can a stressed stranger on a phone find your number, your town and your Gas Safe registration in eight seconds?

If they can, the site is doing its job.
