Entrepreneurs Circle scores highest of the five UK SME business consultancies brands compared, at 6.6 out of 10 on the Whito leaderboard.
Opinion and analysis. Whito read every brand below by hand on 12 October 2026, using publicly visible activity only. Each channel is scored 0 to 10 against fixed anchors, set out under How we scored, so a score describes what we could see on the day, not the quality of the service. Brands cannot pay to appear or to change a score. Where a figure is not published, we say so.
Brands that sell marketing advice to small businesses should show their own marketing at its sharpest. On the public evidence, most of these five do not. Three have no Trustpilot reviews or just one, and only one publishes a price.
Entrepreneurs Circle leads at 6.6 because it is the only brand that shows a price, £99 + VAT every four weeks, alongside several ways to sign up and the most Meta ads on the board. ActionCOACH UK is second, carried by search: it returned in 8 of 10 UK test searches.
Business Doctors scores lowest, 3.1. It has a clear positioning line and a 10-minute business benchmark, but links only LinkedIn, shows no phone or form on its homepage and has no Trustpilot reviews.

Company verdicts
Entrepreneurs Circle, 6.6
Entrepreneurs Circle scores 6.6, the highest of the five. It is the only brand that publishes a price, £99 + VAT every four weeks with no contract, and lets owners join online. Email capture is the broadest on the board: free books and trainings, a four-week free trial through a limited bursary, local meetings and the National Entrepreneurs Convention, held 7 to 8 September 2026 at the ICC Birmingham. It links six social profiles and runs a podcast, Business Growth Central with the Botterills. Paid is strong, with 16 Google ads and 30 Meta ads. Trustpilot shows 4.5 from 880 reviews. Search is weak, with no appearances in the 10 test searches. Its clearest gap is replies: 1 of the latest 20 Trustpilot reviews has a company reply.
ActionCOACH UK, 5.4
ActionCOACH UK scores 5.4, second of five. Search carries it: actioncoach.co.uk returned in 8 of 10 UK test searches, the strongest search result across this board. It also runs 11 Meta ads, though no Google ads were found. YouTube, LinkedIn, Facebook, X and Instagram are linked. The website has a phone number, an email address, a find-a-coach locator and an advisor call route. It offers a money-back guarantee on coaching programmes when clients follow the agreed actions, and says it has served businesses since 1993. Email capture is thin. The homepage shows a 4.9 rating from 1,642 reviews without naming the platform, while Trustpilot shows 3.5 from 234 with replies on 2 of the latest 20. That review picture is its clearest gap.
Vistage UK, 3.9
Vistage UK scores 3.9, third of five. Its brand work is solid: the same handle on every platform, a clear line, ‘The world’s largest CEO coaching & peer advisory organisation’, and named Chairs on the homepage. LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and X are linked. The website has a phone number, a membership application, group locations and a referral form, but no prices. It runs 4 Google ads and no Meta ads were found. It cites 45k members and 65+ years in operation, and its 2.2x growth figure comes from a 2017 Dun & Bradstreet study. No email signup was seen, the Trustpilot profile has no reviews and it did not appear in the 10 test searches. Its clearest gap is proof that is recent and independent.
The Alternative Board UK, 3.3
The Alternative Board UK scores 3.3, fourth of five. It sells monthly peer board meetings with one-to-one coaching, and its homepage line is clear: ‘Grow your business with a trusted peer advisory board’. The website has a phone number, an email address, a find-a-board locator and a free consultation offer. Facebook, LinkedIn, X and YouTube are linked, though the YouTube link is labelled ‘Follow us on Facebook’. It publishes business guides and 2024 member survey results, which claim members’ sales grew 5.5 times the national SME average. A ‘Stay Connected’ section promises monthly insights but no form was seen. No Google or Meta ads were found. Its clearest gap is reviews: Trustpilot shows a single review, at 3.2.
Business Doctors, 3.1
Business Doctors scores 3.1, the lowest of the five. Its brand checks are its strongest channel: a clear line, ‘Progress you can see. Decisions you can trust.’, and a named adviser, Steve Ennis, shown as a 2026 National Mentoring Matters Award winner. The Value Builder, a 10-minute business benchmark, works as a lead magnet. It also runs a sister brand, Energize Partners, for larger businesses. The rest is thin. Only LinkedIn is linked, the homepage shows no phone number, form or booking, no prices are listed and no Google or Meta ads were found. It did not appear in the 10 test searches. Its clearest gap is proof: the Trustpilot profile has no reviews and the testimonials section on its about page is empty.
What the channels show
Price is almost never shown
Only Entrepreneurs Circle publishes a price, £99 + VAT every four weeks with no contract, and it has the highest website score on the board at 9. The four coaching and advisory brands send owners to a call, a coach locator or a free consultation instead. ActionCOACH UK links to a pricing page from its homepage. For owner-managers watching every pound, the cost of help is usually the first question, and four of five leave it unanswered on the page.
Reviews are thin for advisers
Business Doctors and Vistage UK have no Trustpilot reviews and The Alternative Board UK has one, at 3.2. Entrepreneurs Circle has 880 at 4.5 and ActionCOACH UK 234 at 3.5. Both reply to very few: 1 and 2 of their latest 20. Brands that sell advice on customer experience leave most of their own public feedback without an answer, which is a visible gap for a buyer comparing advisers.
Growth claims lean on own studies
The Alternative Board UK cites sales growth of 5.5 times the national SME average from its own 2024 member survey. Vistage UK cites 2.2x growth from a 2017 Dun & Bradstreet study. Entrepreneurs Circle cites 148% average member growth from a 2021 survey of 873 members. None of these figures is independent and current at the same time, which is why third-party reviews matter more here than in most trades.
One brand owns search
ActionCOACH UK returned in 8 of 10 UK test searches for coaching and advisory terms, including town searches in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds and Bristol. None of the other four appeared once, even though four of the five run guides or advice libraries. Search is the channel where one brand has pulled clearly ahead, and it is the main reason ActionCOACH UK is second overall.
Key lessons for any business consultancy or coaching practice
Publish a monthly price
Entrepreneurs Circle shows £99 + VAT every four weeks with no contract, and it has the highest website score on the board. A small consultancy can publish a starting monthly retainer or the price of a first strategy session, so owners can judge fit before they pick up the phone.
Name the review platform
If you show a star rating, say where it comes from and how many reviews it covers. ActionCOACH UK shows a 4.9 rating from 1,642 reviews without naming the platform, while its Trustpilot profile shows 3.5 from 234. A clearly sourced rating is easier for an owner to trust.
Offer a short self-assessment
Business Doctors uses its Value Builder, a 10-minute business benchmark, to start conversations. A simple scorecard on cash flow, pricing or team gives owners a reason to share an email before they are ready to talk, and gives you something specific to discuss on the first call.
Put one adviser on the homepage
Owner-managers buy the person who will sit across the table. Only Business Doctors and Vistage UK name people on the homepage, and both pass that brand check. A photo, a name and a short, true track record is enough to turn a faceless service into someone an owner can picture working with.
Run a regular free event
Entrepreneurs Circle runs local monthly meetings, an annual convention and a podcast, which gives it the most capture points on the board and an email score of 7. A monthly breakfast, a short webinar or a recorded Q&A does the same job locally and costs far less to run.
Steal this playbook
Five moves from this leaderboard, ranked by return on effort.
- Publish a starting price. Entrepreneurs Circle is the only brand showing one and it leads the board on website and overall.
- Collect reviews from every client. Three of the five have one Trustpilot review or none, so any honest review base stands out.
- Reply to the reviews you get. The two brands with real review bases reply to only 1 and 2 of their latest 20.
- Offer a 10-minute self-assessment. Business Doctors’ benchmark is its main email capture point.
- Write guides on the questions owners search. ActionCOACH UK returned in 8 of 10 test searches and scores 10 for search, while the other four appeared in none.

How we scored
Who is on the board. Segment: growth support sold to owner-managed UK SMEs, meaning business coaching franchises, peer advisory boards and growth membership, not large management consultancies. Five brands an SME owner is likely to meet, chosen for relevance and size: Business Doctors (franchise network of business advisers, part of The Uspire Partnership), ActionCOACH UK (business coaching franchise), The Alternative Board UK (franchised peer advisory boards), Vistage UK (CEO peer groups, part of a US-owned organisation) and Entrepreneurs Circle (online-first membership community). Shirlaws was considered but shirlaws.com now belongs to an Aberdeen motorcycle dealer. Brands were chosen for relevance and size, not for marketing strength.
- Social: which platforms the brand links to from its own site, and whether we could see recent posting and video.
- Website: 2 for a brochure page, 4 with a contact route on mobile, 6 with a page per service and a one-step enquiry, 8 with prices or ranges and registration numbers shown, 10 with online booking or an instant priced quote.
- Email: visible capture only, as we did not subscribe test inboxes for this edition. 2 for a bare newsletter form, up to 10 for a loyalty or app ecosystem with personal offers.
- SEO: ten UK searches for this trade, run through a standard web search API on 12 October 2026 (not personalised, no location set beyond the town in the query); we counted how many returned the brand’s own site in the top ten results. 0 of 10 scores 2, 1 to 2 scores 4, 3 to 4 scores 6, 5 to 6 scores 8, 7 or more scores 10, plus 1 for a substantial advice library. The searches: business coach for small business; business growth consultant UK; SME business advisor; peer advisory board UK; business mentor for business owners; business coach London; business coach Manchester; business coach Birmingham; business coach Leeds; business coach Bristol.
- Paid: the Google Ads Transparency Centre (UK, last 30 days, by domain) and the Meta Ad Library (UK, active ads whose text names the brand, counted by the advertiser page). 2 for nothing found in either, 4 for active in one with fewer than 10 ads, 6 for active in both or 10+ in one, 8 for active in both with 10+ in at least one, 10 for 50+ Google ads and 10+ Meta ads. Paid describes visible activity, not quality. A low paid score is not a fault.
- Reviews: a fixed formula. Rating (4.7+ scores 4, 4.5 to 4.69 scores 3, 4.0 to 4.49 scores 2, 3.5 to 3.99 scores 1) plus volume (10,000+ scores 4, 1,000+ scores 3, 100+ scores 2, 20+ scores 1) plus replies to the latest 20 reviews (half or more scores 2, some scores 1).
- Brand: five checks worth 2 each: the same name and logo everywhere, one clear positioning line, a distinctive asset used for years, three or more independent press mentions in 90 days, and named people or expertise on the site.
These anchors are fixed for this edition, so the five scores can be read against each other. Boards published before October 2026 used scores relative to the other brands on the board, so compare across boards with care.
