This guide explains what decides the price of asbestos work in the UK. It quotes no price ranges, because Whito has not yet collected asbestos prices and will not invent them. Some firms publish survey and collection prices; those are the firm’s own numbers to read on the firm’s own page, with its date. When Whito runs its asbestos price collection, published prices only, the dated results will be published here.

The category decides the price

Before any number means anything, the job has a legal category: licensed work, which only a contractor on the HSE licensed list may do, notifiable non-licensed work, or non-licensed work. The same garage roof can be quoted lawfully by a non-licensed firm while a sprayed coating two streets away is licensed work with notification periods, enclosures and air testing. Two quotes for “asbestos removal” that sit in different categories are quotes for different jobs; the category question comes before the price question, always.

The survey comes first

Most real jobs start with a survey, a management survey for ongoing occupation or a refurbishment and demolition survey before work. Survey pricing is the part of this trade most often published, usually by property size. The survey decides what the material is, and therefore which category, and therefore everything about the removal price.

What is inside a removal quote

Labour and access first. Then the parts customers do not see: notification where required, enclosure and decontamination on licensed work, consignment of the waste to a licensed site, and clearance or reassurance air testing at the end. A quote that is dramatically cheaper has usually removed one of those invisible lines; ask which one.

Disposal is its own cost

Asbestos waste travels on consignment notes to licensed facilities, and that chain costs money per sheet and per bag. Collection-only services for pre-bagged cement sheets exist and are often the cheapest published prices in the trade; they are a different product from removal, not a cheaper version of it.

The questions that protect you

Which category is my job, and if licensed, where is your HSE licence? What does the quote include: notification, air testing, consignment? Where does the waste go? Can I see a sample clearance certificate? A firm that prices asbestos honestly answers all four before you ask twice.
