Neptune scores highest of the ten UK interior design brands compared, at 6.1 out of 10 on the Whito leaderboard.
Opinion and analysis. Whito read every brand below by hand on 22 October 2026, using publicly visible activity only, against fixed anchors and the same ten UK searches. Each channel is scored 0 to 10, set out under How we scored, so a score describes what we could see on the day, not the quality of the design work. Brands cannot pay to appear or to change a score. Where a figure is not published, we say so.
Most UK interior designers market the same way: a beautiful Instagram grid, a portfolio site and word of mouth. On our fixed anchors that is not enough. None of the ten brands appeared in any of 10 UK searches for an interior designer, and seven of the ten have no Trustpilot profile at all.
Neptune scores 6.1, ahead of OKA on 5.3 and John Lewis Interior Design on 4.9. The top two both sell online with prices and offer a design service alongside, which lifts their website, paid and review scores well above the bespoke studios.
Studio Bamford-Bowes, formerly And Then They Went Wild, scores lowest at 2.3. It has an attractive portfolio, but no Google or Meta ads, no Trustpilot profile and no email sign-up were found.

Average is the simple mean of the seven channel scores, rounded to one decimal place. Brands on the same average share a rank and are listed A to Z. All ten brands read 22 October 2026. Meta Ad Library counts were read on 23 October 2026, after the library was unavailable on 22 October.
Company verdicts
Neptune, 6.1
Neptune scores 6.1, the highest of the ten. Reviews score 9 from 4.8 on 10,972 Trustpilot reviews, with replies to 2 of the latest 20. Its website scores 9: an online shop with prices and checkout, plus a design service you can book, though the design service price is not shown. Paid scores 10 on about 400 Google ads and 39 Meta ads, and email 4 for a newsletter and login. neptune.com appeared in none of 10 UK searches, with its stories library adding a point.
OKA, 5.3
OKA scores 5.3, second on the board. Its website scores 9 for an online shop with prices and checkout alongside an interior design service. Reviews score 6 from 4.5 on 6,987 Trustpilot reviews, with no replies on the latest 20. Paid scores 8 on about 200 Google ads and 5 Meta ads, and email 4 for a sign-up and account. oka.com appeared in none of 10 UK searches.
John Lewis ID, 4.9
John Lewis Interior Design scores 4.9, third on the board. Its scores come mostly from the parent store: six social platforms linked from johnlewis.com, about 3,000 Google ads across the whole domain and 46 Meta ads from the John Lewis & Partners page, and the long-running ‘Never Knowingly Undersold’ line, so brand scores 6. Reviews score 6 from 3.9 on 105,932 Trustpilot reviews for John Lewis as a whole, with replies to 8 of the latest 20. The interior design service page itself loaded with no service content on the day, so website scores 2. johnlewis.com appeared in none of 10 UK searches for interior designers.
Laura Hammett, 3.7
Laura Hammett scores 3.7, fourth on the board. Social and brand both score 6: five platforms linked, a clear line and its founder and team named. Its website scores 6, with project pages but no prices. Its Laura Hammett Living page ran 19 Meta ads, so paid scores 6, but no email sign-up, Google ads or Trustpilot profile were found, and laurahammett.com appeared in none of 10 UK searches.
Sims Hilditch, 3.6
Sims Hilditch scores 3.6. Its website scores 6, with project pages, a journal, a press and podcasts page and its own books. Paid scores 6 on 5 Google ads and 4 Meta ads, and social 4 for three platforms. Email scores 2 for a newsletter. No Trustpilot profile was found, so reviews score 0, and simshilditch.com appeared in none of 10 UK searches.
Kelly Hoppen Interiors, 3.1
Kelly Hoppen Interiors scores 3.1, sixth on the board. Social scores 6 for five platforms, the joint highest social score here. Its website scores 6, with project pages and a booking route but no prices. Email scores 2 for an email field. No Google or Meta ads or Trustpilot profile were found, and it appeared in none of 10 UK searches.
Sophie Paterson Interiors, 2.9
Sophie Paterson Interiors scores 2.9, level seventh with Taylor Howes. Its website scores 6, with project pages and press but no prices. Social scores 4 for Instagram, YouTube and TikTok, one of only three brands here using video platforms. Its page ran 8 Meta ads, so paid scores 4. No email sign-up, Google ads or Trustpilot profile were found, and it appeared in none of 10 UK searches.
Taylor Howes, 2.9
Taylor Howes scores 2.9, level seventh with Sophie Paterson Interiors. Its website scores 6, with project pages and press but no prices. Social scores 4 for three platforms and email 2 for a newsletter. No Google ads or Trustpilot profile were found, and taylorhowes.co.uk appeared in none of 10 UK searches.
Studio Ashby, 2.6
Studio Ashby scores 2.6, ninth on the board. Its website scores 6, with project pages and a store. Social scores 2, with only Instagram linked. Its pages ran 2 Meta ads, so paid scores 4. No email sign-up, Google ads or Trustpilot profile were found, and studioashby.com appeared in none of 10 UK searches. Brand scores 4 for one name and a clear line.
Studio Bamford-Bowes (formerly And Then They Went Wild), 2.3
Studio Bamford-Bowes, the studio first listed on this board as And Then They Went Wild, scores 2.3, the lowest of the ten. The old domain now redirects to the new name, but its Instagram and Facebook links still use the old handles, so brand scores 2. Its website scores 6, with a consultation route but no prices. No email sign-up, Google ads or Trustpilot profile were found, and it appeared in none of 10 UK searches.
What the channels show
Search belongs to directories
None of the ten brands appeared in any of 10 UK searches, from ‘interior designer near me UK’ to ‘interior designer Bristol’. The results went to directories, Houzz, quote platforms, job sites and cost guides from online design services. A studio that writes a clear cost page and a page for the town it works in would be competing with directories, not with these brands.
Retail brands lead on the scored channels
Neptune and OKA sell online with prices and checkout, and both score 9 on website. They also run Google ads (about 400 and about 200) and Meta ads (39 and 5) and have thousands of Trustpilot reviews. The bespoke studios score 6 on website, as none shows a price for design work.
Most studios have no review profile
Seven of the ten have no Trustpilot profile, so they score 0 on reviews. That reflects how this trade works, through press and referrals, but it leaves a customer with nothing independent to check.
A rename left the social handles behind
And Then They Went Wild is now Studio Bamford-Bowes, and its old domain redirects to the new one. Its Instagram and Facebook links still use the old handles, which costs it a brand point.
Key lessons for any interior design business
Publish how you charge
None of the ten shows a price for design work. A page explaining your fee basis, an hourly rate or a typical project range answers the question behind two of our ten searches.
Write the page for your town
No brand appeared for any of the five city searches. One honest page per town, with real projects there, competes against directories rather than other studios.
Give clients somewhere to review you
Seven of the ten have no Trustpilot profile. Pick one review platform, ask every finished client, and link it from your site.
Keep one name everywhere
If you rename, update every social handle at the same time. Studio Bamford-Bowes still links to accounts under its old name.
Steal this playbook
Five moves from this leaderboard, ranked by return on effort.
- Set up one review profile and ask every client. Seven of the ten brands have no Trustpilot profile and score 0 on reviews.
- Publish your fee basis. None of the ten shows a price for design work.
- Write a cost page and a town page. No brand appeared in any of 10 UK searches.
- Add an email sign-up with a reason to join. Four of the ten capture no email at all.
- Link your video platforms. Only three brands here link YouTube or TikTok.
The evidence behind the scores

How we scored
Who is on the board. Ten UK interior design brands a homeowner is likely to meet: Neptune (furniture, kitchens and homewares brand with a design service), John Lewis ID (the John Lewis interior design service), Sims Hilditch (Cotswolds luxury residential studio), Studio Ashby (London residential and hospitality studio), Studio Bamford-Bowes (London design and styling studio, formerly And Then They Went Wild), OKA (furniture and interiors brand with a design service), Kelly Hoppen Interiors (London studio of the designer Kelly Hoppen), Laura Hammett (London luxury residential studio), Taylor Howes (London luxury design practice) and Sophie Paterson Interiors (London and Surrey residential studio). Chosen for relevance and size, not marketing strength.
This board was first published with scores relative to the other brands on it. On 22 October 2026 it was rescored on Whito’s fixed anchors and expanded to ten brands, so scores are not comparable with the earlier edition.
When we looked. All ten brands were read on 22 October 2026, with the ten searches below run once on that date. Meta Ad Library counts were read on 23 October 2026, after the library was unavailable on 22 October.
- Social: which platforms the brand links to from its own site, and whether we could see recent posting and video.
- Website: 2 for a brochure page, 4 with a contact route on mobile, 6 with a page per service and a one-step enquiry, 8 with prices or ranges and registration numbers shown, 10 with online booking or an instant priced quote.
- Email: visible capture only, as we did not subscribe test inboxes for this edition. 2 for a bare newsletter form, up to 10 for a loyalty or app ecosystem with personal offers.
- SEO: ten UK searches for this trade, run through a standard web search API on 22 October 2026 (not personalised, no location set beyond the town in the query); we counted how many returned the brand’s own site in the top ten results. 0 of 10 scores 2, 1 to 2 scores 4, 3 to 4 scores 6, 5 to 6 scores 8, 7 or more scores 10, plus 1 for a substantial advice library. The searches: interior designer near me UK; interior designer cost UK; how much does an interior designer charge per hour UK; interior design services UK; how to choose an interior designer; interior designer London; interior designer Manchester; interior designer Birmingham; interior designer Leeds; interior designer Bristol.
- Paid: the Google Ads Transparency Centre (UK, last 30 days, by domain) and the Meta Ad Library (UK, active ads whose text names the brand, counted by the advertiser page). 2 for nothing found in either, 4 for active in one with fewer than 10 ads, 6 for active in both or 10+ in one, 8 for active in both with 10+ in at least one, 10 for 50+ Google ads and 10+ Meta ads. Paid describes visible activity, not quality. A low paid score is not a fault.
- Reviews: a fixed formula. Rating (4.7+ scores 4, 4.5 to 4.69 scores 3, 4.0 to 4.49 scores 2, 3.5 to 3.99 scores 1) plus volume (10,000+ scores 4, 1,000+ scores 3, 100+ scores 2, 20+ scores 1) plus replies to the latest 20 reviews (half or more scores 2, some scores 1).
- Brand: five checks worth 2 each: the same name and logo everywhere, one clear positioning line, a distinctive asset used for years, three or more independent press mentions in 90 days, and named people or expertise on the site.
These anchors are fixed for this edition, so the ten scores can be read against each other. Boards published before October 2026 used scores relative to the other brands on the board, so compare across boards with care.
