Countingup scores highest of the ten UK accountancy brands compared, at 6.6 out of 10 on the Whito leaderboard.
Opinion and analysis. Whito read every brand below by hand on 22 October 2026, using publicly visible activity only, against fixed anchors and the same ten UK searches. Each channel is scored 0 to 10, set out under How we scored, so a score describes what we could see on the day, not the quality of the service. Brands cannot pay to appear or to change a score. Where a figure is not published, we say so.
Most accountancy firms still hide their fees behind a quote form. On this board, the top three all publish a price on the page, while the four that show none, including the national names TaxAssist and Azets, sit between fourth and ninth.
Countingup scores 6.6, ahead of Crunch on 6.1 and The Accountancy Partnership on 5.9. Search is thin for the national names: across 10 UK searches, from ‘accountant near me for small business UK’ to ‘accountant Bristol’, Azets appeared in four, mostly through its city office pages, and DNS Accountants in three. Five of the ten appeared in none.
Mazuma scores lowest at 4.6. It publishes a clear starting price, but no ads were found in either library, its Trustpilot rating is 3.5, and mazumamoney.co.uk appeared in none of 10 UK searches.

Company verdicts
Countingup, 6.6
Countingup scores 6.6, the highest of the ten. Its website scores 10, the only top score here: plans are priced on the page (from £5 a month) and the account is opened through the app without waiting for a callback. Paid scores 8, with 6 Google ads in 30 days and 11 active Meta ads, the second highest Meta count on the board. Reviews score 7 from 4.2 on 3,221 Trustpilot reviews, with replies to 16 of the latest 20. Email scores 6 for its app and account. It appeared in 2 of 10 UK searches, both answered by its resources pages. Social scores 4, with three platforms linked. Countingup is a business bank account with built-in bookkeeping rather than a firm of accountants, so it is selling software a customer can start alone.
Crunch, 6.1
Crunch scores 6.1. Email scores 7, the highest here, for a newsletter sign-up plus an app on both app stores. Its website scores 9: software is priced from £4 a month with online sign-up, and an instant quote builder prices the accountancy service, but only after you give a name, email and phone number. Social scores 6 with six platforms linked, including TikTok. Paid scores 6, with 36 Google ads and no Meta ads found from a Crunch page. Reviews score 6 from 3.8 on 1,678 Trustpilot reviews, lifted by replies to 13 of the latest 20. crunch.co.uk appeared in 1 of 10 UK searches, plus a knowledge library.
The Accountancy Partnership, 5.9
The Accountancy Partnership scores 5.9. Reviews score 9 from 4.7 on 5,763 Trustpilot reviews, with replies to 15 of the latest 20. Paid scores 8, with about 500 Google ads, the most on the board, and 6 Meta ads. Its homepage title carries the price, ‘Unlimited support from £24.50 per month’, so the website scores 7; the instant quote asks for contact details first. A Meet the Team page names staff with their qualifications. Email scores 0: no newsletter, account or app was seen, which is the one channel holding it back. It appeared in 1 of 10 UK searches.
Azets, 5.7
Azets scores 5.7. It has the best search result here: azets.com appeared in 4 of 10 UK searches, all four through city office pages (Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds and Bristol), and an insights library adds a point, so SEO scores 7. Paid scores 8, with 39 Google ads and 1 Meta ad from its UK page. Brand scores 6 for one name, a clear line (‘Move forward with confidence.’) and a UK leadership page. Its website scores 6, with service pages and a contact route but no prices. Reviews score 5 from 3.8 on 131 Trustpilot reviews, the fewest here, with replies to 16 of the latest 20. Azets is a much larger, regionally spread firm than most on this board, which helps its town searches.
Gorilla Accounting, 5.6
Gorilla Accounting scores 5.6, level fifth with TaxAssist. Reviews score 9, from 4.9 on 2,265 Trustpilot reviews, level with Caroola for the highest rating here, with replies to 12 of the latest 20. Its website scores 7: prices are shown, with one service ‘starting from just £200 +VAT’, and there is an instant quote and an online application to join, but no registration number. Paid scores 6, with 18 Google ads and no Meta ads found. Email scores 4 for a client login. The site dates the business to early 2015. gorillaaccounting.com appeared in none of 10 UK searches.
TaxAssist, 5.6
TaxAssist scores 5.6, level fifth with Gorilla Accounting. Reviews score 8 from 4.6 on 4,671 Trustpilot reviews, with replies to 15 of the latest 20. Brand scores 6: one name, a clear line (‘We go beyond Tax & Accounting’) and an editorial team page naming qualified staff. Paid scores 6, with about 300 Google ads and no Meta ads found from a TaxAssist page. Its website scores 6: a page per service and a phone and contact route, with a fixed-fee pricing page that explains the fee is set after a meeting, so no price is shown. It appeared in 1 of 10 UK searches. Email scores 2 for a newsletter sign-up page.
Caroola (formerly SJD Accountancy), 5.3
Caroola scores 5.3. SJD Accountancy now trades as Caroola, and sjdaccountancy.com redirects to caroola.com. Paid scores 10, the only top paid score here, with about 200 Google ads and 24 Meta ads. Reviews score 9 from 4.9 on 7,275 Trustpilot reviews, the most on the board, with replies to 15 of the latest 20. Its website scores 7, priced ‘from only £28/month’ with an online sign-up form. Email scores 0, with no newsletter, account or app seen on the homepage. Neither caroola.com nor sjdaccountancy.com appeared in any of 10 UK searches, a gap that a rename makes harder to close.
DNS Accountants, 5.0
DNS Accountants scores 5.0. SEO scores 7: dnsassociates.co.uk appeared in 3 of 10 UK searches, including both cost queries, and it runs a blog and knowledge base. Reviews score 8 from 4.8 on 502 Trustpilot reviews, with replies to 16 of the latest 20. Social scores 6, with five platforms linked. Paid scores 2: no ads were found in either library. Brand scores 2 for a clear line (‘Smart accountancy that unlocks your growth’); the name moves between DNS Associates on the domain and DNS Accountants in the page title, email address and Instagram handle. Its packages page showed no prices on the day.
Brookson, 4.7
Brookson scores 4.7. Intouch Accounting’s address now redirects to Brookson, a contractor accountancy and umbrella business. Reviews score 8 from 4.8 on 3,113 Trustpilot reviews, held on a profile named BrooksonOne, with replies to 5 of the latest 20. Paid scores 6, with 17 Google ads and no Meta ads found. Its website scores 6: service pages and a free consultation booking, with no prices shown. Email scores 4 for a subscribe option and client login. brookson.co.uk appeared in none of 10 UK searches, though it runs a knowledge library.
Mazuma, 4.6
Mazuma scores 4.6, the lowest of the ten. Paid scores 2, with no ads found from Mazuma in either library; the Meta results for the name were a different business, Mazuma Mobile. Reviews score 4 from 3.5 on 951 Trustpilot reviews, with replies to 7 of the latest 20. It does several things well. Its website scores 7, with subscriptions from £38 + VAT a month on the homepage. Brand scores 6: one name, a clear line (‘affordable and hassle-free subscription-based accounting’) and a founder, Lucy Cohen, named on the About page with a founding year of 2006. mazumamoney.co.uk appeared in none of 10 UK searches.
What the channels show
Published prices lead
The top three all put a price on the page: Countingup from £5 a month, Crunch software from £4 a month and The Accountancy Partnership from £24.50 a month. Six of the ten show a starting price. Of the four that show none, Azets, TaxAssist and Brookson ask for a meeting or a call first, and DNS Accountants’ packages page showed no figure on the day.
City pages win the town searches
Azets appeared for ‘accountant Manchester’, ‘accountant Birmingham’, ‘accountant Leeds’ and ‘accountant Bristol’, each time through an office page. DNS Accountants took ‘accountant Bristol’ the same way. ‘Accountant London’ returned none of the ten. The cost searches were answered by guides from DNS Accountants, TaxAssist and Countingup, not by price pages.
Accountancy brands reply to reviews
Eight of the ten reply to at least half of their latest 20 Trustpilot reviews. Only Brookson (5 of 20) and Mazuma (7 of 20) fall short. Replies lift Crunch to 6 on reviews despite a 3.8 rating. The spread is in the rating: from 3.5 for Mazuma to 4.9 for Gorilla Accounting and Caroola.
Ad spend does not follow size
The Accountancy Partnership ran about 500 Google ads in 30 days, TaxAssist about 300 and Caroola about 200. Caroola is the only brand with 50+ Google ads and 10+ Meta ads. DNS Accountants and Mazuma ran none that we could find. Countingup ran only 6 Google ads but 11 on Meta.
Key lessons for any accountancy business
Put a starting price on the page
A ‘from’ price answers the first question a sole trader or company director has. The top three all show one. A fixed-fee promise without a number, as on TaxAssist’s pricing page, still leaves the customer to ring and ask.
Build a page for each town you serve
Azets appeared in four city searches through office pages that name the town. A small practice can do the same for its own town and the towns around it, with real contact details and the services offered there.
Reply to every review
Most firms here reply to at least half of their latest reviews. Crunch replies to 13 of its latest 20 and holds a review score of 6 on a 3.8 rating. For a small practice, replying is the cheapest trust signal there is.
Capture an email address
Two brands, The Accountancy Partnership and Caroola, capture no email at all outside the quote form. Accountancy has fixed deadlines every year, which makes a reminder email one of the most useful things a firm can send.
Use one name everywhere
DNS Accountants splits its name across two domains, and Brookson’s reviews sit under BrooksonOne. Both lose a brand point. Caroola shows how to rename cleanly: the old domain redirects and the review profile carries the new name.
Steal this playbook
Five moves from this leaderboard, ranked by return on effort.
- Publish a starting price for your three main services. The top three brands all show one; none of the four that show no price makes the top three.
- Reply to every review you have. Eight of ten brands here reply to at least half of their latest 20, so not replying now stands out.
- Build a page for each town you cover. Azets appeared in four city searches through office pages; ‘accountant London’ returned none of the ten.
- Write one guide for each common cost question. The two cost searches were answered by guides, including DNS Accountants on both.
- Add a deadline reminder sign-up. Two of the ten capture no email at all; Crunch’s newsletter plus app earns the top email score of 7.

How we scored
Who is on the board. Ten UK brands a sole trader or small company is likely to meet when choosing an accountant, spanning models: TaxAssist (national franchise network of high street accountants), Crunch (online accountants with its own software), Countingup (business bank account with built-in bookkeeping and tax), Mazuma (subscription online accountants for sole traders and small firms), Gorilla Accounting (online accountants for the self-employed and contractors), Azets (large regional accountancy and advisory firm with UK offices), DNS Accountants (online accountants for small businesses and contractors), The Accountancy Partnership (fixed monthly fee online accountants), Caroola (formerly SJD Accountancy, specialist accountants for contractors and small firms) and Brookson (contractor accountancy and umbrella provider, now also behind the Intouch Accounting address). Chosen for relevance and size, not marketing strength.
When we looked. All ten brands were read on 22 October 2026, with the ten searches run on the same date. This board was first published with scores relative to the other brands on it. On 22 October 2026 it was rescored on Whito’s fixed anchors and expanded to ten brands, so scores are not comparable with the earlier edition.
- Social: which platforms the brand links to from its own site, and whether we could see recent posting and video.
- Website: 2 for a brochure page, 4 with a contact route on mobile, 6 with a page per service and a one-step enquiry, 8 with prices or ranges and registration numbers shown, 10 with online booking or an instant priced quote.
- Email: visible capture only, as we did not subscribe test inboxes for this edition. 2 for a bare newsletter form, up to 10 for a loyalty or app ecosystem with personal offers.
- SEO: ten UK searches for this trade, run through a standard web search API on 22 October 2026 (not personalised, no location set beyond the town in the query); we counted how many returned the brand’s own site in the top ten results. 0 of 10 scores 2, 1 to 2 scores 4, 3 to 4 scores 6, 5 to 6 scores 8, 7 or more scores 10, plus 1 for a substantial advice library. The searches: accountant near me for small business UK; how much does an accountant cost for a small business UK; self assessment tax return accountant cost; limited company accountant; online accountant for sole traders UK; accountant London; accountant Manchester; accountant Birmingham; accountant Leeds; accountant Bristol.
- Paid: the Google Ads Transparency Centre (UK, last 30 days, by domain) and the Meta Ad Library (UK, active ads whose text names the brand, counted by the advertiser page). 2 for nothing found in either, 4 for active in one with fewer than 10 ads, 6 for active in both or 10+ in one, 8 for active in both with 10+ in at least one, 10 for 50+ Google ads and 10+ Meta ads. Paid describes visible activity, not quality. A low paid score is not a fault.
- Reviews: a fixed formula. Rating (4.7+ scores 4, 4.5 to 4.69 scores 3, 4.0 to 4.49 scores 2, 3.5 to 3.99 scores 1) plus volume (10,000+ scores 4, 1,000+ scores 3, 100+ scores 2, 20+ scores 1) plus replies to the latest 20 reviews (half or more scores 2, some scores 1).
- Brand: five checks worth 2 each: the same name and logo everywhere, one clear positioning line, a distinctive asset used for years, three or more independent press mentions in 90 days, and named people or expertise on the site.
These anchors are fixed for this edition, so the ten scores can be read against each other. Boards published before October 2026 used scores relative to the other brands on the board, so compare across boards with care.
Common questions
Which accountancy brand scores highest on the Whito leaderboard?
Countingup scores highest at 6.6 out of 10, ahead of Crunch on 6.1 and The Accountancy Partnership on 5.9. Countingup prices its plans on the page from £5 a month, opens accounts through its app, ran 6 Google ads and 11 Meta ads, and holds 4.2 from 3,221 Trustpilot reviews with replies to 16 of the latest 20.
Which accountancy brand scores lowest, and why?
Mazuma scores 4.6. It shows a clear price, from £38 + VAT a month, and names its founder, but no ads were found from Mazuma in either library, its Trustpilot rating is 3.5 from 951 reviews with replies to 7 of the latest 20, and its site appeared in none of 10 UK searches.
How do these accountancy brands compare on reviews?
Ratings run from 3.5 for Mazuma to 4.9 for Gorilla Accounting and Caroola. Caroola has the most reviews, 7,275, followed by The Accountancy Partnership on 5,763 and TaxAssist on 4,671. Eight of the ten reply to at least half of their latest 20; Mazuma replies to 7 and Brookson to 5.
What can a local accountant copy from these brands?
Publish a starting price for your main services, as the top three brands do. Build a page for each town you serve, the way Azets’ office pages appear in four city searches. Reply to every review. Add a deadline reminder sign-up, since two of the ten capture no email at all.
Why is a business bank account on an accountants leaderboard?
Countingup sells bookkeeping and tax tools alongside its business account, and it is one of the names a sole trader meets when deciding whether to use an accountant or do the books themselves. It also appeared in 2 of 10 UK accountancy searches, both through guides on accountant costs and when a limited company needs an accountant.
