Resi scores highest of the five UK architects brands compared, at 5.7 out of 10 on the Whito leaderboard.
Opinion and analysis. Whito read every brand below by hand on 12 October 2026, using publicly visible activity only. Each channel is scored 0 to 10 against fixed anchors, set out under How we scored, so a score describes what we could see on the day, not the quality of the service. Brands cannot pay to appear or to change a score. Where a figure is not published, we say so.
Most architects assume good drawings sell the next job. On the public evidence, homeowners are shown very little proof. Two of the five practices compared have no Trustpilot reviews at all, and a third has two.
The pattern is clear. Resi leads because it does the visible basics at volume: 727 Trustpilot reviews with a reply on each of the latest 20, links to all six social platforms and about 200 Google ads in the last 30 days. The practices behind it have strong websites but little outside proof.
Architect Your Home and Extension Architecture share the lowest score, 2.9. Architect Your Home publishes fixed fees from £699 + VAT, yet shows no social links and has no reviews. Extension Architecture has two Trustpilot reviews averaging 3.3 and no way to collect an email.

Company verdicts
Resi, 5.7
Resi scores 5.7, the highest of the five. Reviews carry it: Trustpilot shows 4.5 from 727 reviews, and every one of the latest 20 has a reply. Paid is strong too, with about 200 Google ads by domain in the last 30 days and 2 Meta ads. It links to all six social platforms and Houzz. The website has a page per extension type, an instant quote form, an advice-call calendar and a statement that it employs ARB-registered architects. Search is the soft spot: none of the 10 UK test searches returned resi.co.uk in the top ten, although it runs an advice library. Its clearest gap is price: three packages, Express, Explore and Elevate, are named on the homepage without a figure, so a homeowner has to start a quote to learn the cost.
Urbanist Architecture, 4.7
Urbanist Architecture scores 4.7, second of five. Its website and email work are the strongest of the London practices. It publishes an indicative fee of 10% to 15% of build cost, runs 13 service pages and offers a lead-magnet library: a planning permission ebook, a Green Belt book, a London build cost calculator and a property development audit. It is the only one of the five to appear in UK test searches, returning in 2 of 10. Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn are linked, and two staff are named, Robin Callister and Megane Leroux. Paid is light, with 4 Google ads and no Meta ads found. The clearest gap is outside proof: its Trustpilot profile has no reviews, and its own reviews page shows testimonials with no platform score.
Build Team, 4.6
Build Team scores 4.6, third of five. It is a London design-and-build firm that sells in-house architectural design, and it states over 1,750 completed projects since 2007. Its email capture is the broadest on the board: a newsletter form, a brochure download, a client log-in and an Instant Quote tool that emails a personalised PDF estimate. The website adds a free 30-minute consultation calendar and an extension cost calculator. Instagram, Facebook and X are linked, plus Pinterest and Houzz. Trustpilot shows 4.2 from 17 reviews, with replies on 9 of them. No Google or Meta ads were found, and buildteam.com did not appear in the 10 test searches. Its clearest gap is that 17 public reviews sit against a claim of 1,750 projects.
Architect Your Home, 2.9
Architect Your Home scores 2.9, joint lowest. Its website scores 8, the highest website score on this board, because it publishes fixed prices: a Vision Sketch Sprint from £699 + VAT, a 7-hour sprint at £999 + VAT and a 2-hour turbo sprint at £500 + VAT, with Calendly call booking and a fee calculator. Its team page names seven architects tied to London areas. It also runs 11 Google ads. Everything else is thin. No social platform is linked from the homepage, the Trustpilot profile has no reviews, email capture is a single newsletter form and the site did not appear in the 10 test searches. Its clearest gap is proof: a strong priced offer with no reviews or social presence to back it.
Extension Architecture, 2.9
Extension Architecture scores 2.9, joint lowest. It links Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn, and its website has a long service list, a quote form with budget bands from up to £50k and a free video meeting booking. It runs 7 Google ads. The homepage claims ’16 years of experience’ and ‘over 1,800 planning application approvals’, while another section says ‘thousands of successful planning applications’. Trustpilot shows 3.3 from 2 reviews with no replies. No newsletter, guide or account capture was found, and the site did not appear in the 10 test searches. The X handle in its page metadata is spelt @EArchiteture. Its clearest gap is that the volume claims on its homepage have almost no public reviews behind them.
What the channels show
Reviews decide the order
Resi is the only brand with a review base of any size, 727 Trustpilot reviews at 4.5 with replies on all of the latest 20. Build Team has 17 and Extension Architecture has 2. Architect Your Home and Urbanist Architecture have none. Homeowners spending tens of thousands of pounds on an extension have little independent proof to read for four of the five practices.
Prices appear at the small end
Architect Your Home publishes fixed sprint fees from £500 + VAT, and Urbanist Architecture publishes a fee range of 10% to 15% of build cost. Resi names three packages without prices, and Build Team’s quote tool gives an estimate by email rather than on the page. The firms with prices on show are not the firms with the most reviews.
Search is hard to win
Across 10 UK searches covering extension, loft and planning terms in London, Manchester, Bristol, Birmingham and Leeds, only Urbanist Architecture returned in the top ten, and only twice. Four of the five run an advice or guides library, including Resi’s cost guides and Build Team’s knowledge base, but that content has not yet turned into visible rankings on these terms. For a local practice, the town-level searches look open rather than owned.
Registration is mentioned, not shown
Resi says it employs ARB-registered architects, Urbanist shows ARB, RIBA and RTPI logos, Extension Architecture headlines ‘RIBA ARCHITECTS IN LONDON’ and Architect Your Home shows a RIBA logo in its footer. None of the five shows an ARB registration number on its homepage. A registration number is something a homeowner can check for themselves in a minute, and it is missing from all five homepages.
Key lessons for any architecture practice
Publish one fixed fee
Architect Your Home sells a first design session from £699 + VAT and lists it on the homepage. A homeowner can judge the cost before calling. A small practice can do the same with one priced first step, such as a measured survey or a feasibility visit.
Ask every client for a review
Resi has 727 Trustpilot reviews and replies to every one of its latest 20, and that is the main reason it leads the board. Two of the London practices have no Trustpilot reviews at all. Ask at handover, when the client is happiest, send a direct link, and reply to every review, good or bad.
Show a fee range
Urbanist Architecture publishes an indicative fee of 10% to 15% of build cost for a full service. A range tells a homeowner whether they are in the right place without forcing a call, and it filters out enquiries that will never fit your fees. It costs nothing to add to a services page.
Turn planning know-how into a guide
Urbanist runs a planning permission ebook, a builders checklist, a Green Belt book and a London build cost calculator. Each one collects an email from someone who is not ready to hire yet. One useful checklist, such as what to prepare before a planning application, is enough to start a list.
Put your ARB number on the page
None of the five shows an ARB registration number on its homepage, even where the site talks about registered architects or shows logos. Showing your number next to the word ‘architect’, with a link to the ARB register, is a simple trust signal that the larger practices do not use.
Steal this playbook
Five moves from this leaderboard, ranked by return on effort.
- Ask every finished client for a review. Resi’s 727 Trustpilot reviews are the main reason it scores highest, while two rivals have none.
- Publish a price for your first step. Architect Your Home’s fixed £699 + VAT sprint gives it the highest website score on the board.
- Add your ARB number to the homepage. None of the five shows one, so it sets a small practice apart for a few minutes’ work.
- Offer one planning guide for an email. Urbanist’s ebooks and cost calculator give it the second highest email score.
- Link your social profiles from your site. Architect Your Home links to none, which cost it a full channel score.

How we scored
Who is on the board. Five UK practices a homeowner or small developer planning an extension, loft or conversion is likely to meet, chosen for relevance and size, not marketing strength. Models: Resi (online-first national residential architecture platform with in-house ARB architects), Architect Your Home (long-running network of local architects across London and the Home Counties, sold by fixed-fee sprints), Urbanist Architecture (RIBA chartered specialist practice for difficult sites and developers), Extension Architecture (high-volume extension and planning practice) and Build Team (design-and-build firm whose in-house architectural design is sold to homeowners). Honest limit: outside Resi, the consumer-facing residential architecture market is London-heavy; four of the five are London-registered, with stated coverage into the Home Counties and beyond. Brands were chosen for relevance and size, not for marketing strength.
- Social: which platforms the brand links to from its own site, and whether we could see recent posting and video.
- Website: 2 for a brochure page, 4 with a contact route on mobile, 6 with a page per service and a one-step enquiry, 8 with prices or ranges and registration numbers shown, 10 with online booking or an instant priced quote.
- Email: visible capture only, as we did not subscribe test inboxes for this edition. 2 for a bare newsletter form, up to 10 for a loyalty or app ecosystem with personal offers.
- SEO: ten UK searches for this trade, run through a standard web search API on 12 October 2026 (not personalised, no location set beyond the town in the query); we counted how many returned the brand’s own site in the top ten results. 0 of 10 scores 2, 1 to 2 scores 4, 3 to 4 scores 6, 5 to 6 scores 8, 7 or more scores 10, plus 1 for a substantial advice library. The searches: house extension architect; architect for loft conversion; architect planning permission extension; how much does an architect cost for an extension; online architect service UK; architect London extension; architect Manchester extension; architect Bristol extension; architect Birmingham house extension; architect Leeds loft conversion.
- Paid: the Google Ads Transparency Centre (UK, last 30 days, by domain) and the Meta Ad Library (UK, active ads whose text names the brand, counted by the advertiser page). 2 for nothing found in either, 4 for active in one with fewer than 10 ads, 6 for active in both or 10+ in one, 8 for active in both with 10+ in at least one, 10 for 50+ Google ads and 10+ Meta ads. Paid describes visible activity, not quality. A low paid score is not a fault.
- Reviews: a fixed formula. Rating (4.7+ scores 4, 4.5 to 4.69 scores 3, 4.0 to 4.49 scores 2, 3.5 to 3.99 scores 1) plus volume (10,000+ scores 4, 1,000+ scores 3, 100+ scores 2, 20+ scores 1) plus replies to the latest 20 reviews (half or more scores 2, some scores 1).
- Brand: five checks worth 2 each: the same name and logo everywhere, one clear positioning line, a distinctive asset used for years, three or more independent press mentions in 90 days, and named people or expertise on the site.
These anchors are fixed for this edition, so the five scores can be read against each other. Boards published before October 2026 used scores relative to the other brands on the board, so compare across boards with care.
