Most SEO quotes are judged by feel. The agency sounds confident, the number sounds plausible, the contract gets signed. That is how UK businesses end up paying established-agency prices for budget-tier scopes.
There is a better way to judge a quote: put it next to the published market. This page is the procurement view of the Whito file, the June 2026 collection of every published UK SEO price we could find. The file is the only place a Whito number is calculated. This page tells you how to use it.
What the file holds
45 published monthly SEO prices from 16 UK providers, taken directly from their own pricing pages in June 2026. Each price carries the provider type, the tier it belongs to and the pricing model. The medians: £799 a month across all 45 prices, £447 for entry tiers. The prices cluster into three bands: budget £99 to £300, mainstream £350 to £1,000, established agency £1,500 to £5,000+.
The audit, step by step
- Put the quote in a band. Budget, mainstream or established agency. If the price sits in one band and the promised scope belongs to another, ask why.
- Compare it to the medians. £799 overall, £447 at entry. A quote far above the band it claims needs a named reason: competitive market, technical debt, national scope.
- Label the number you have been given. A published price is on a public pricing page. A quoted retainer is what one provider offered you. A planning budget is what you decided to spend. They are three different things and must never be read as one figure.
- Ask what the fee includes. Hours or deliverables, who writes the content, who owns the work if you leave.
- Add VAT. Published UK prices are almost always exclusive of it.
- Check the total. The UK Marketing Cost Calculator runs your quote against the published ranges automatically.
Where the numbers come from
Every figure on this page is read from the June 2026 file, unrounded. Nothing here is a new sample and nothing is an estimate. For the full dataset and method, read the UK Marketing Prices Study. For quarterly channel ranges derived from the same file, see the UK Marketing Cost Index. For what to budget as a buyer, see UK SEO costs.
The takeaway: never audit a quote against another quote. Audit it against the published market, with the label attached.
