Marketing for asbestos removal firms
Asbestos work splits three ways: licensed removal that only an HSE licensed contractor may do, non-licensed work with its own rules, and everything a general builder should not be named for at all. AI engines do not know the difference, and a Companies House hit is not a pass. If you hold the licence, the licence is the marketing.
The right order for asbestos removal firms
Do the stages in order. Nothing in Build works while Start is missing.
Start, Build, Scale for asbestos removal firms: the free foundations first, then systems and proof, then measurement.
Start
- Licence status in plain text: HSE licensed, or non-licensed work only, with what that means
- Company number and trading name matching Companies House and your licence
- Survey types explained in plain English on one page
Build
- One page per job type: garage roofs, textured coatings, insulation board, each stating the category
- Photos of real jobs with the paperwork stage shown
- Reviews asked for after clearance, naming the job type
Scale
- Track quote-to-job rate by job type
- Relationships with surveyors and managing agents
- Drop enquiry types the licence does not cover
What we know, and what we have not measured yet
Whito has not yet run a study on this trade, so this page quotes no removal prices and no invented findings. The first asbestos study is specified in the research stub below: ask for asbestos removal in 12 UK towns, check every name against the HSE licensed list, and count the general builders named for work they should not be doing.
What we can already say from the public rules: licensed asbestos work may only be done by contractors on the HSE list, some non-licensed work is still notifiable, and a Companies House record says nothing about either.
The wider picture across every industry we track is in the UK AI Visibility Index.
Whito need-to-know for asbestos removal firms
- The licence splits the market for you. Most trades have to invent a difference between themselves and the cheap quote. Yours is written in law: licensed work is yours alone. Say so, plainly, with the list linked.
- Non-licensed does not mean unregulated. Plenty of domestic jobs are legitimately non-licensed, with rules of their own. A firm that explains the split honestly wins both kinds of work.
- A builder named for asbestos is a safety story. When engines recommend a general builder for removal, that is not a marketing problem, it is the subject of our study. Your pages should teach the customer to ask the licence question.
- A Companies House hit is not a pass. An active company can be entirely unlicensed. The check that matters is the HSE list, and almost no customer knows it exists.
Why licensed firms lose quotes to builders who should not be named
The engine does not ask the licence question
Ask for asbestos removal and the answers include general builders with good reviews and no licence. The customer cannot tell, because nothing in the answer carries the category.
The cheap quote is a different job
A non-licensed quote against a licensed job is not a saving, it is a category error. Firms that explain licensed vs non-licensed on the quote win the comparison.
The paperwork is invisible
Notification, clearance, waste consignment: the real product is the paperwork trail, and most firms never show it. Proof of process is proof of price.
What actually works
Six things, in rough order of return.
Lead with the licence
HSE licensed, licence holder name, and a link to the HSE list. If you do non-licensed work only, say exactly that, it still beats silence.
Explain the three categories
One page, plain English: licensed, notifiable non-licensed, non-licensed. The firm that teaches the split is trusted with both halves of it.
Show the paperwork
A sample clearance certificate and consignment note, personal details removed. Customers buying safety want to see what safety looks like.
One page per common job
Garage roof, Artex, insulation board. Each names its usual category and what the law requires, with your licence line on every one.
Teach the HSE check
Show customers how to look a contractor up. The check only ever helps the firms that pass it.
Reviews that name the job and the certificate
“Garage roof removed, air test passed, certificate the same week” is the only review that sells this trade.
Quick wins this week
Put the licence line on every page
Licence status in text, holder name matching Companies House, HSE list linked.
Write the three-categories page
Licensed, notifiable non-licensed, non-licensed, in plain English, today.
Photograph the paperwork
One clearance certificate, details redacted, on the homepage.
Common mistakes
Vague “fully licensed and insured”
Licensed for what, by whom? On this trade the phrase is checkable against a public list, and the firms that cannot survive the check use the same words. Name the licence.
Quoting licensed and non-licensed as one price
It invites comparison with builders quoting a different, sometimes unlawful, job. State the category before the number.
Chasing every enquiry
Marketing non-licensed services you do well beats implying licensed capability you do not hold. One bad claim here is not a refund, it is enforcement.
The HSE licensed contractor list. One list, one question.
Licensed asbestos removal in the UK may only be done by contractors licensed by the Health and Safety Executive, and the list of licence holders is public. Some lower-risk work is non-licensed, part of it still notifiable, with rules of its own. A Companies House record is not a pass on any of it. For a licensed firm this is the one claim no builder with a van and a good review score can copy.
