Some AI tools read your website without running its JavaScript. Others run it, then go looking for your phone number and the buttons to press. This free check fetches your homepage once, the way a reader that skips JavaScript does, and shows you what got through.
What it checks
Nine things, each one something a customer, a search engine or an AI tool needs to find on your homepage:
- Readable words without JavaScript. If your words only appear after scripts run, a reader that does not run them gets a blank page.
- Phone number in the text. Not only inside a button, a picture or a script.
- Postcode or address in the text. A map embed does not count. Readers cannot see inside it.
- A main heading. One H1 that says what you do and where.
- Business details in structured data. A LocalBusiness block with your name, phone and address.
- A tappable phone link. An agent asked to call you looks for a tel: link.
- Named links and buttons. Icon-only buttons with no label are invisible to screen readers and agent browsers alike.
- Alt text on images. And no prices, numbers or hours that only exist inside a picture.
- A page title and description.
If your site turns our reader away with a block or a bot check, the result says so. In our October 2026 study, 69 of 606 working UK trade and dental homepages did that, and every one of those 69 then loaded normally for a person in Chrome. We call it a people-only door.
What it does not check
It reads your homepage only, once, from our web server, the way an automated reader would. It cannot see what your page builds with JavaScript after it loads, so it will not show facts that only appear that way. That is the point: those facts are the ones a no-JavaScript reader misses. It does not test whether any AI engine recommends you. For that, see the Visibility Monitor.
For AI crawler access in your robots.txt, an llms.txt file and a ready-made fix, run the free Visibility Check. It is a different test and the two work together.
How UK sites did
We ran this exact reader over 642 UK plumber, electrician, locksmith, heating engineer and dentist websites on 8 October 2026. 69 of the 606 that were working turned it away while opening normally for a person. Only 6 were empty without JavaScript. Read the AI Browser Readiness study for the results, the method and its limits.
The check is free and has no sign-up. We keep each result for an hour so a repeat check is instant, and count checks per connection for an hour to stop abuse. Nothing is kept after that.
